This week SFPC had a special visit from our local photographer Patrick Fitzgerald. Patrick dedicates hours of his time photographing vessels berthing / sailing in and out of the Shannon Estuary. It was a pleasure to have him here to meet our Marine Operations Team and on to bring him onboard the MV “Juno” to meet with the captain and get a tour of the vessel. Thanks to all the team at SFPC and to Mullock & Sons for facilitating this visit. We hope Patrick enjoyed it as much as we did. @foynes_shipping_photos Mullock & Sons (Shipbrokers) Ltd

Day 5 of #irishportsafetyweek On the final day of a very enjoyable week, we held two very beneficial exercises in Ted Russell Docks and at our Pilot Station in Cappa. Swift Water Ireland carried out a Man Overboard Exercise which was open to staff and port users, while Trident Training were in Cappa with our Pilot Boat crew completing a tailored training course on Marine Immediate Emergency Care focusing on the skills required to effectively respond to medical emergencies that occur during Pilot transfer operations. Niaron Ltd kindly provided port users with the opportunity to complete Fire Extinguisher training in TRD while we also performed an exercise reviewing and testing our PAL System and Lone Working Safety Devices. As we reflect positively on a very successful week, we would like to extend our thanks to all our staff, port users and stakeholders for their attendance and positive contributions throughout the week. We look forward to your continued commitment and collaborative approach to Port Safety. Day 4 of #irishportsafetyweek Niaron gave a very informative presentation on the hazards associated with working at height to a large group of port stakeholders. Senior Inspection Ger McSweeney of the HSA gave an informative workshop regarding the many hazards within the port sector noting the high-risk industry we work in and the need for constant vigilance and adherence to H&S best practice in everything we do. Our keynote speaker James Gorry took to the floor and his story is truly remarkable, his challenges on dealing with both physical and mental issues post-accident is truly humbling and inspiring. James gave a real-life example of how an accident at work can change a persons life. Our Pilot Boat Crew completed a Man Overboard Recovery exercise at the pilot boarding area which proved to be really beneficial for all involved. We rounded off the day with a presentation from Ray Eagle of DSG on Health and Safety in the Digital Age and a Pyro Demonstration / workshop in TRD . #irishportsafetyweek Day 3 and what a day. SFPC were delighted with the turn out for our Port Clean-up Campaign this morning. Thanks to all of those who rolled up their sleeves to get involved, it is much appreciated. After a full month of clocking up the kilometers we took on the final 5km of our Autumn challenge followed by a BBQ and raffle all in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation. A massive thank you to all who participated in the challenge, donated or sponsored prizes and to Anne Riordan of the Irish Heart Foundation who presented medals and spoke to employees on the importance of Heart Health Habits. We look forward to having the Health and Safety Authority onsite tomorrow along with keynote speaker James Gorry.
