An incredible challenge that will go a long way to enhance mental health in schoolchildren ~ The Rising is back, raising funds for our charity partner, A Lust For Life. A Lust For Life develops school programmes, which teach children from the earliest age how to protect their mental wellbeing. The fundraising challenge consists of a kayak of the Shannon, followed by a 160 km cycle from Limerick to Killarney, and culminating in a climb up Ireland's highest peak, Carrauntoohil. An organisation we are proud to support, National Learning Network, hosted an informative webinar recently, centred on how families can cope with the rising issue of school avoidance in young people. Speakers included Educational Psychologist, Lorna O'Connor, who explained the rise in school avoidance and social anxiety in young people, and the therapeutic strategies that can be used to support families to overcome the issue. Two NLN students shared personal testimonies about their experiences and how the organisation has helped them overcome mental health challenges. We were delighted to provide funding for state-of-the-art Sensory Pods at several RehabCare respite centres recently. These Sensory Pods provide an interactive and yet peaceful space for children and adults with disabilities. Grants from The Care Trust have funded seven of these pods in RehabCare respite centres around the country. Feedback on the pods has been wonderful. Debra Douglas, the Social Care Manager at Seaview Respite House, said: "We were delighted today in Seaview Respite House to have our sensory pod fitted. Everyone at The Care Trust would like to send our best wishes to the staff and students of NLN Longford. The National Learning Network training centre at Grafton Court, Longford, was damaged by a fire on 28th July. We are heartened to hear that students are being supported to continue with their education and that their wellbeing continues to be prioritised during this difficult time. NLN is an organisation that strives for inclusion, ensuring that people with disabilities and mental health issues have the resources and support they need to fulfil their educational, personal, and career goals. The Rising returns! 🙌 🚣♀️🚴⛰️ Niall Breslin and the team are taking on the mammoth challenge again this year, raising funds for our charity partner, A Lust For Life. For 8 days, the team will kayak, cycle, and climb, all to support A Lust For Life's excellent early prevention schools programmes, teaching children how to enhance and protect their mental health.
