Happy to share a moment of precision, professionalism and dedication to safety with our team at the Port of Galway. In this video, you’ll see the pilot boat MAEVE approach the RV Tom Crean on a tranquil night to safely transfer our pilot, Captain Kevin Walsh, for a smooth climb to the ship's deck. Galway has dodged another bullet with Storm Ashley as two ships at the Port of Galway safely rode the top of the tide during the peak of the storm. Despite the challenging conditions, the operations ran smoothly, thanks to coordination and professionalism of all involved. A huge shoutout to our emergency services and the Major Emergency Management Team at Galway City Council for keeping the public safe and informed throughout. Their timely updates and swift actions, including necessary road closures, ensured the city was well-prepared for the worst while hoping for the best. #PortOperations #StormAshley #EmergencyServices

⚓Throw back Tuesday ⚓ Scrolling through photos and this pops up. We’re excited to feature the historic ILEN, seen here at Port of Galway, a remarkable vessel with a unique story. Originally built in 1926 in Ireland, ILEN served as a trading vessel in the Falkland Islands, navigating the challenging South Atlantic waters. Designed by the legendary Conor O’Brien, she was crafted to withstand some of the toughest maritime conditions, carrying essential supplies to remote communities for decades. After her incredible journey in the Falklands, ILEN has been lovingly restored and now sails proudly once again, reminding us of a rich maritime heritage. A testament to enduring craftsmanship and resilience, her presence reminds us of the maritime history we continue to cherish and honour.
