Maybe you've noticed some disturbing behavior on campaign attribution this summer in GA4. Google has provided some answers, but our experts have also tried solutions, so let's share some of them! Here is the feedback of Laura GARAVAGNO, Senior Manager in Analytics for Jellyfish in Paris.
🚨 Have you spotted a puzzling issue with your GA4 attribution report, showing campaigns as “organic”? 🚨 We encountered this with several Jellyfish clients around the end of June to early July and this issue seems widespread 👉https://lnkd.in/dqBEnYGk In Google’s recent partner webinar, they confirmed that the problem stems from the gclid, which is causing the source and medium to be overridden to "google/cpc" as a quick fix. However, the campaign value isn’t automatically corrected, often defaulting to “organic” – which explains the discrepancy mentioned. To bypass this issue, we recommended one of our client to switch from auto-tagging to manual tagging. Since then, we've successfully restored accurate campaign data. (see screenshot attached). 💡 Takeaway: If you're noticing similar issues, manual tagging could be a reliable solution until a permanent fix is provided. 💡 Takeaway 2: Leverage the UTM_ID available in GA4 to accurately identify your campaigns, reduce data entry errors, and ensure you have a required key for GA4 imports. #GoogleAds #GA4 #attribution #digitalmarketing #CPC #manualtagging
