Child safety needs warriors across the globe, and Arpan is striving to bring them together to protect children everywhere. Last week, our Founder and CEO, Pooja Taparia advanced this mission by strengthening partnerships aimed at expanding Arpan’s impact and outreach. In London, Pooja met with the Vitol Foundation team and members from the Vitol company, sharing Arpan’s journey on addressing Child Sexual Abuse and how their support has helped deepen our impact. She also met members of the GMSP Foundation who’ve been long term co-travellers in this journey. At the Do Good Fellows Convening hosted by Mr. Karl-Johan Persson in Stockholm, Pooja highlighted Arpan’s staggering growth: a 15X increase in outreach, impacting 18.4 million children and adults to date, and a 19X expansion in teacher training in the last 5 years despite the Covid years in the middle which was met with a lot of appreciation. By supporting teachers as protectors and engaging parents as advocates, Arpan is working to scale its mission through these important alliances. Pooja’s journey also took her to The Nobel Prize Foundation office in Stockholm, where she was deeply inspired by the impact of a global legacy celebrating innovation that’s most helped human kind. Teaching children about Personal Safety is crucial in reducing incidents of Child Sexual Abuse! At the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum 2024 in Cape Town, Dr Bhuvaneswari Sunil, Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at Arpan, presented the key outcomes of Arpan’s innovative Personal Safety Education (PSE) model to a global audience. This school-based model equips children with essential knowledge about personal safety, fosters open conversations, and provides crucial healing support to those affected by abuse. Through its trauma-informed approach, the PSE model not only empowers children to recognise and prevent unsafe situations but also offers them the tools to process their experiences, facilitating long-term emotional recovery. The model has created a ripple effect, reaching key stakeholders like parents, teachers, and caregivers, helping to build a safer and more supportive environment for children. By integrating healing interventions into the programme, Arpan ensures that children receive sustained emotional support, promoting their well-being and resilience. Visit www.arpan.org.in to learn more about this model and how you can be part of this transformative movement. #SVRIForum #ChildSafety #EndChildAbuse #ArpanImpact

Can early intervention with children help in fighting against Child Sexual Abuse (CSA)? Research indicates that effective school-based programmes can empower children to recognise and respond to unsafe situations, ultimately reducing the risk of abuse. Several international studies also support the idea that early intervention with boys can significantly help in combating CSA. Arpan recently had the opportunity to discuss this critical issue at the 'Maging Solusyon International Conference on Child Sexual Abuse,' organised by the Centre for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse (CPTCSA) in the Philippines. Namrata Joshi, Senior Manager of Healing Services at Arpan, spoke about 'Children Who Sexually Misbehave or Abuse,' where she highlighted the importance of teaching boys about empathy, boundaries, consent, and safety as essential components of prevention. Our experience comes from having worked therapeutically with adolescent boys who engage in inappropriate behaviour through our school programme and with young offenders in institutions, highlighting the critical need for proactive measures. These conversations are vital for raising awareness about child sexual abuse and encouraging early intervention, helping to break the stigma and foster a supportive environment for children. Had a wonderful time at the Do Good Fellows convening in Stockholm. It was great to meet everyone after many years but most importantly be inspired by each other’s work spanning the world; from continuing the work of furthering education in Afghanistan after Taliban took over to addressing trafficking in Myanmar, from helping professionals address vicarious trauma in numerous countries to teaching children coding in Africa it was a huge dose of inspiration I got. I too presented ARPAN’s work and shared the progress we made in 5 years. Lot of appreciation came in for our work especially that we had scaled so significantly. From 2019 to now, our outreach impact has grown by 15X, our ability to train no. of teachers/stakeholders every year by 19X, our budget has doubled even with Covid years in the middle and our team has grown by 50%. 😊. Going back to Bombay with memories of beautiful times spent together. 😍 Thank you Beatrice Engström-Bondy and Lily Lapenna MBE for making this happen with the massive support of Mr. Persson. #WarriorsofArpan #DoGoodFellows #SocialChange #SocialEntrepreneurs
