#CEEWEvents | Reaching Net Zero For India: Harnessing the Transformative Moment in India’s Growth Story As an emerging climate leader in the Global South, India is uniquely placed to shape the future by aiming to do what few countries have done before—develop and decarbonise simultaneously. Net zero is not just a call for emissions reductions—it is a call for economic transformation. The pathways we follow will have far-reaching implications for all levels of government, balance sheets of businesses, portfolios of financial institutions, and the quality of life of citizens. In this webinar, we will: 🔹 Demystify the criticality of net zero, explore India's #NetZero debate, reflect on the role of institutions and policymakers in aiding this transition 🔹 Discuss how to deliver finance for decarbonisation and carbon neutrality 🔹 Share insights from a policy study on the UK Net Zero commitments and energy systems 🔹 The webinar will also highlight the Reaching Net Zero for India course, developed with Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment - University of Oxford. This course aims to equip policymakers, the wider public sector, and the academic ecosystem with the necessary knowledge to foster sustainable decision-making and contribute to India's green transition in their respective domains. India's journey towards heat resilience is, above all, about protecting human health—whether by preventing illness or reducing the economic impact of heat-linked productivity loss. The health sector is central to helping us adapt to extreme heat. At the Heat-Health Conclave by NPCCHH and NIDM, I engaged with state nodal officers on heat risk governance and highlighted how urban heat mapping can enhance health sector preparedness for extreme heat. Three key takeaways: 1. Prevention is always better than cure. Hospitals are setting up emergency cooling wards, but it's often too late when a patient arrives—only about two-thirds survive. 2. Data alone isn't enough. While the need for granular health outcome data is crucial, focusing on the resilience of health centres and first responders is equally essential. 3. Better coordination is key. Strong alignment between city and district authorities is essential for an effective heat-health response, especially in tier II and III cities. #heathealthresilience Purvi Patel National Prog. on Climate Change and Human Health NCDC National Institute of Disaster Management Prerna Ojha Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW)

📢 #CEEWEvents | Unlocking Green Finance for Sustainable Cities💰 🏙️ Municipal green bonds hold immense potential to mobilise finance for climate-resilient urban infrastructure—but what will it take to scale their adoption in India? At the CEEW-GFC National Dialogue on Municipal Green Bonds, policymakers, investors, and municipal leaders came together to discuss opportunities, challenges, and solutions. Key takeaways: ✅ Urban Local Bodies must strengthen financial capacity to access debt markets and attract investors. ✅ The private sector has a critical role to play in deepening the municipal bond market and driving green finance solutions. ✅ There is a growing appetite for municipal green bonds—4 of the last 7 municipal bonds issued in India were labelled “green,” reflecting a positive shift in investor interest. The latest CEEW Green Finance Centre study, Unlocking Green Finance for India’s Urban Local Bodies, was launched by D. Thara, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Debashis Bandyopadhyay, Chief General Manager, SEBI. The study finds that municipal green bonds could mobilise up to USD 2.5 billion by 2030—if the right reforms are in place. 🔗Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/g_-H7xnd Anurag Arun, Shreshtha Saraswat, Subalakshmi K, Santosh Tiwari, Varun Kaushik, Saibal Ghosh, Neha Kumar, sujatha.srikumar@gma Srikumar, Rajashree Murkute, Astha Talwar, Ravikant Joshi, Gagan Sidhu, Arjun Dutt, Amlan Bibhudatta, Dishant Rathee, Charmi Mehta, Apoorv Minocha, Riddhi Mukherjee, Uday Veer Singh, Dhruba Purkayastha, PhD, Akshra Dutt Pandey #GreenBonds #SustainableCities #ClimateFinance #UrbanDevelopment
