Air pollution poses a significant threat to public health, leading to a range of acute and chronic health conditions. Short-term exposure to polluted air can cause respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchitis, and irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat. Long-term exposure, however, is far more detrimental, contributing to serious conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, and cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. Vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, are particularly at risk. Odisha is now among India's top 10 exporting states, having increased its exports by approximately 68% in recent years. Despite this success, certain challenges remain. First, eight sectors contribute nearly 98% of these exports, indicating a need for diversification to sustain growth and resilience against market fluctuations. Second, In FY 2020-21, Odisha exported raw fish and marine products worth $405.22 million, but processed products accounted for only $14.86 million. By enhancing value addition in this sector, Odisha may diversify its economy and boost employment opportunities.
