❤️ My Diwali Story ❤️ Shubham, who I taught in 2012 when he was in Grade 4, met me yesterday. He has finished his Diploma in Pharmacy and is a licensed pharmacist - owns a chemist shop in his village in UP. Shubham went back to his village a year or two after I taught him. Sharing a snippet from our conversation - S - Bhaiya aapko dekhkar rona aa jata hai! (I get tears in my eyes when I see you!) Me - why? S - Bhaiya dreams kuch rehe gaye mere, par jo bhi ho maine meri family ki full responsibility li hai (Bhaiya I couldn't accomplish some of my dreams, but nonetheless I have taken full responsibility of my family! S - I got my older sister married (financially I contributed everything), I am paying for my brother's education. S - I wanted to become a police officer but couldn't get through the physical examination round .... .... Spoke for about 15 minutes. My response - "Beta things you have accomplished, I haven't done any any of it. I do not know the 'p' of pharmacy and I am proud of how you have navigated life. Badhte chalo (keep going)! My Reflections from the conversation - When I taught, the only person who was a part of my vision was Shubham. My vision was to see Shubham and others in college and everything I did in the classroom was to accomplish this. Never thought that one of them would be a chemist, earn decent enough and support his complete family. Bachche bade ho gaye aur shayad main bhi! 😊 Shubham also remembered Ashish, Robin Keshaw, Apoorva Aggarwal and Sangitha and wished for more teachers like us in his village also. Can't wait to relive the nostalgia in Mumbai for the TFI 15th year anniversary! Teach For India

Riya and Rainee’s story began long before they entered a classroom. Connected through their cohort's WhatsApp group, they booked the same train to Institute (in Pune) and forged a special bond. Sharing a Delhi University background and a passion for impactful change, they entered the Fellowship as a duo that, brought excitement, support, and plenty of creativity to their classrooms. Their journey hasn't been without its challenges. From facing cultural differences within the team to navigating the unpredictable nature of classroom dynamics, they've learned that genuine collaboration often means learning from setbacks. "Some days, things wouldn't go as planned, and it could feel like a complete failure," Rainee shares. But Riya adds, "Our approach was simple—we'd sit down, reflect, and support each other to move forward stronger." By grounding their partnership in respect and open communication, they've created a safe space for their Students and each other. What makes Riya and Rainee's classroom unique is how they integrate their distinct talents—Riya's background as a dance enthusiast and Rainee's love for art—to bring vibrant energy into learning. Their extracurricular activities aren't just about fun but about nurturing values like teamwork, creativity, and resilience. Through games and interactive storytelling, they've turned learning into an experience their Students look forward to. Their work has impacted Students and made an impression on parents and school staff. From hearing Students tell them, "Didi aap log sab kuch saath mein karte ho!" to receiving heartfelt appreciation from parents, Riya and Rainee are creating a culture of belonging and joy in the classroom. For Riya and Rainee, an "excellent education" means nurturing Students holistically and helping them view learning as exciting and enriching. They exemplify that the heart of education lies in the relationships and community we build, inspiring everyone around them with their dedication, creativity, and partnership. Program manager - Teach for India | UN SDG 4 - Quality education | Enablers of ED equity | Capacity & team building | Ex UNICEF Volunteer
As a Program Manager at Teach For India it becomes utmost important for me to create immersive and meaningful experiences for my team of fellows. Together we call this team a “Learning Circle “ or LC. This time I planned and executed a this strong and immersive experience with my LC. Wanted to share about our recent Diwali LC. 🙂↔️🩵 We collaborated with “Bal Raksha Bharat “ and “ The kind citizen”. They invited my LC for their Seva laddu event where we prepared Delicious laddus for the children BRB works for. Together we fully embraced the spirit of seva for the community we visited for this event. Together we engaged with their students and teachers and learnt about their work and culture. There were so many students and the community centre was beautiful filled with artefacts and student learning materials. With this lived the true spirit of Diwali and the joy of this event was visible on everyone’s face. This has been the most purposeful and impactful learning circle till now. 🙂↔️ 🤗 I am so grateful to my LC for being the most cooperative team and always open to learn and experience new things. #diwali #education #teachforall #community #immersion #team #transformation

I remember sending out weekly newsletters to my team while working as a Program Manager with Teach For India, sharing best practices from classrooms along with interesting resources I’d find online. Back then, I even had a Pinterest board (PS: this was around 10 years ago!) for collating readings, pedagogical practices, and sometimes photos from classrooms. While I’m not sure how much it helped the team, it built a habit of reading and synthesizing information that helped me as a coach and kept me in tune with what was happening outside my own bubble. Fast forward to now, and I’m in a role that demands similar discipline with research and immersion. To rebuild that practice, I thought: why not share these learnings here? So, here’s to keeping consistent, sharing insights and resources I come across that might be useful to others as well. To keep this first edition short, here are two communities that have been treasure troves of knowledge over the past few months: 1. L&D SHAKERS by Anamaria Dorgo – I’m especially loving their “AI Learn-tini” series, through which I got to explore AI enhanced workflows, guide to AI transformation training, and more. Their community digest is packed with valuable resources! 2. Learning Designers Community (LDC) by Shraddha Rawat – The recent webinar with Dr. Jerry Zandstra, combined with immersive reading material, gave me a deeper understanding of learning sciences and how to incorporate these concepts into designing experiences and programs. If you work on creating learning experiences, these communities will add so much value. I’m still new to both, but everything they share is consistently interesting and impactful. More cool finds from my corner of the internet coming soon! :)

True mentorship goes beyond sharing guidance or knowledge -- it’s a partnership rooted in support that helps to bring our ideas to life and thoughtfully challenges us. The best mentors don’t just validate our choices; they open new doors, broaden our perspectives, and spark fresh possibilities. I’m incredibly grateful to my personal board, Apurva Ramesh Damani, Sinhali Deshpande, Deepika Guleria and Trupti Mulajkar Deshmukh for always looking out for me. Just as my mentors have been there for me, Teach For India's Alumni <> Alumni Mentorship Program mentors have shown up for their mentees (some of our previous year's mentors are featured in the poster). From Ashish Shalini Shrivastava’s guidance helping Padmini Maurya launch a pilot program to improve computer and financial literacy to Tulika Verma’s Socratic approach helping Kankana Raha to take the plunge as a School Leader, their support has enabled our community to problem-solve, upskill, launch pilots, and lead by example. Look out for the launch of the second year of Teach For India's Alumni <> Alumni Mentorship Program soon! This initiative is designed to support Alumni working in service of children. MATHEMATICS OF PEACE! 🌍 Published in the Ohio Journal of School Mathematics 🕊️✨ I am excited to announce that my research article, Mathematics of Peace, has been published in the Ohio Journal of School Mathematics! Born out of my Fulbright Scholarship, this piece tackles the power of STEM to connect critical thinking with ethical decision-making, especially in areas where peace and conflict intersect. The Fulbright Program | Fulbright Commission in India | IREX | U.S. Department of State | U.S. Consulate General Mumbai Mathematics of Peace takes a bold look at real-world conflicts, using data from historical events such as the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, the Pulwama attack, and the Kargil War. It invites students to calculate and compare energy released in nuclear reactions to the daily energy needs of entire countries—like Afghanistan. Through these exercises, students learn to critically assess the dual uses of nuclear energy, challenging them to think deeply about technology’s role in society. At its core, this work empowers students to see numbers not as abstract concepts but as tools for understanding real-life stakes. My hope? To spark a generation that leans on mathematics for peace rather than conflict, equipping them to make informed and ethical choices for the future. Harvard Graduate School of Education | Varkey Foundation | Teach For All | Teach For India | The Better India | Brut India In a world driven by data, let's leverage STEM to inspire peace and global citizenship! #Fulbright #STEMforPeace #MathematicsEducation #GlobalCitizenship #OhioJournal #TeachForAll #EducationForChange #DataForGood #EthicsInEducation

She is a Teach For India Fellow who has been about finding new hacks that are making learning fun. Kainat is passionate about making an impact and helping uplift people at the grassroots level. She says she was ‘disturbed’ by the extent of ed-inequity in India. As a graduate of Political Science from New York University, Abu Dhabi, she wanted to leverage her learnings and gain practical knowledge about ground realities. This was motivation enough for her to join the Teach For India Fellowship. “Our Students do not have the same starting point as Students studying in private schools,” mentions Kainat. Teaching second-grade Students in New Delhi was challenging for her. Low academic rigour, a lack of understanding of moral values, etc., greatly disturbed her. Kainat thought of putting together innovative techniques that are different from textbook learning. Apart from implementing interactive learning modules, Kainat took small steps to make big strides for her Students. She started screening English movies with moral values, which was a great success in her second-grade classroom. She then started story-reading sessions to help them understand and bridge the gap between gender stereotypes — boys and girls can do the same work and are not different. She also designed sessions and workshops for developing critical thinking skills among her Students. Kainat recognises that her second-grade Students have a lot of potential. Despite facing adversity, she finds them remarkably resilient. "I've witnessed children overcoming extreme poverty and living in difficult conditions," she shares. "Their resilience is what drives and inspires me during challenging times." One example of Kainat's dedication is her work with Maira, a Student struggling with comprehension. Daily extra sessions have significantly improved Maira's reading skills and overall grades. Kainat's story exemplifies how small, consistent efforts can lead to significant change in education.
