Its main areas of intervention include education, agriculture and food security, child protection, environment and energy, vocational training, social development, livelihood, urban upgrading, WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), and healthcare. AVSI works for a world where people are aware of their value and dignity, protagonists of their own integral development. In its interventions, AVSI always considers the contexts and the beneficiary’s community. In 2023, 8,667,441 people have been directly supported through the programs, 1,061,253 of whom come from contexts of war and violence. All projects are realized thanks to donations from private and institutional donors. Last year's budget amounted to €124,919,924. As the Renewable Energy Conference in #Uganda came to an end, Maria Ossola - AVSI Focal Point Support in Access to Energy - highlighted the crucial role that strong #partnerships play in achieving sustainable results. "Most challenges we typically encounter when implementing productive use of #energy in humanitarian settings can be more effectively addressed through structured, ecosystem-wide interventions": this happens when addressing issues like access to finance or to efficient appliances, when selecting high-potential sites with a more value chain-oriented approach, and many more. A special thanks to Oumnia ARAB and all the AVSI staff working in #Lebanon during this #emergency response. So far, 16,000 people have been supported through the distribution of: - 1,891 hygiene kits and 490 newborn kits - 93,120 liters of bottled water - 1,724 blankets and 416 mattresses - 1,041 food kits In addition, 519 children have participated in recreational activities; 84 children with disabilities received specialized assessments; and 834 individuals were assisted through hotline services and referrals. A lot has been done, but Lebanon still needs #help. Every #donation counts: https://lnkd.in/dv5SnJt7
Despite the challenging circumstances caused by the ongoing conflict escalation in South Lebanon, I was able to visit two public schools used as shelters hosting internally displaced persons in Saida today. Connecting with the school directors, shelter’s focal points, volunteers, children, and caregivers provided a firsthand understanding of their resilience and needs during these uncertain times. It was inspiring to witness the impact of AVSI’s emergency response efforts, particularly the recreational activities designed to offer children a sense of normalcy and emotional relief. The dedication of everyone involved in these programs reaffirms the critical importance of our work in supporting vulnerable communities during crises. #EmergencyResponse #HumanitarianAid #AVSI #education #Support #HopeForLebanon

Matilde is 27 years old, she grew up in the San Cristoforo neighbourhood of #Catania. Her strong and ambitious personality distinguishes her from many of her peers. “I want a diploma,” she says, “and a degree too, I know I can do it.” Her story includes an aesthetics course that she had to leave, not by choice, but because many of the girls who were attending the course became pregnant and decided to drop out, leading to its closure due to low enrolment. During that time, Matilde felt lost. The "Oltre la Pandemia" project allowed her to begin a #training course and an internship at a local childcare centre. This experience opened her eyes, revealing a deep passion for working with children. Today, she is determined to resume her studies, earn her diploma, and start a degree in #education, with the dream to become a teacher. “I want to achieve economic stability, think about my future. Then I will think about everything e Alongside Matilde, another 175 #NEET youth have been supported by the "Oltre la Pandemia" project, which was made possible with the support Fondazione CON IL SUD and Intesa Sanpaolo.

By 2050, #cities are expected to host 70% of the world's population, all while facing unprecedented challenges due to #ClimateChange. To contribute to sustainable urban development worldwide and promote both urbanization and international cooperation, the United Nations General Assembly designated October 31st as #WorldCitiesDay. Through the Waste Wise project, Avsi Kenya is committed to implementing a sustainable waste management model to keep the Korogocho informal settlement area clean and empower local organizations. The project targets 1,500 people and is funded by the UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), with the contribution of the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation - Nairobi Office and implemented by AVSI in partnership with Miss Koch Kenya .
On this #WorldCitiesDay AVSI Foundation launches Waste Wise project, a collaborative action with Korogocho community and Nairobi County. The initiative, funded by UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) aims to transform how solid waste is managed and empower local organization to build a sustainable waste management model for a cleaner and healthier environment. By building a sorting transfer station, establishing collection points, segregating solid waste and recycling them, there will be more job opportunities, increased income, more awareness on waste management and solidarity within the community.
