⚡🔋 New Year, new connections! AusNet has successfully energised the 220kV Koorangie Terminal Station on a traditional land of the Barapa Barapa, Wamba Wamba and Yorta Yorta people, approximately 17km out of Kerang. This station will facilitate to connect Koorangie Energy Storage System (KESS) to the Victorian Transmission Network. Design and developed by Edify Energy, KESS is a new 185MW/ 370MWh lithium-ion battery, 100% owned by Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners. KESS secured a System Support Agreement with Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to provide 125MW of system strength services to improve the network stability in the region. This shared network asset will not only increase the renewable hosting capacity of the Murray River REZ by up to 300 megawatts and power 350,000 homes for 2 hours but will also facilitate more #renewable connections in future. The #battery is supported by a 15-year term offtake agreement with Shell Energy Australia for the full 185MW / 370MWh.

We begin the new year with a major milestone for the Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners portfolio. Koorangie Energy Storage System (KESS) is now in the commissioning phase after completing construction. KESS is a 370 MWh battery storage project in Victoria, Australia, that is 100% owned by Sosteneo on behalf of our clients. It was acquired at the ready-to-build stage in October 2023. Our Head of Asset Management, Chris Twomey visited the site to meet with project partners and review progress, reflecting our active approach to asset management. Today, Sosteneo’s portfolio includes over 4 GWh of battery storage capacity under construction or in operations across three countries. These assets have long-term contracts in place, designed to deliver stable and predictable cash flows to our clients. Sosteneo Infrastructure Partners are pleased to welcome NatWest Commercial and Institutional and Siemens Financial Services (through Siemens Bank) as lenders to the 100MW Richborough Energy Park Battery Energy Storage System (BESS); and thank Close Brothers for their support of the project to date. The refinancing is the fourth BESS financing transaction Sosteneo has closed this year and reflects our active asset management capabilities - optimising the capital structure for the stage of the asset, setting a new milestone for the market and establishing a future financing framework for our UK portfolio. Richborough Energy Park has been operational for almost a year - boosting the capacity and flexibility of the network, helping balance the system and providing critical grid stability services - with a capability to power 250,000 homes for an hour and manage the intermittency of renewable generation across the network. The project is located at the repurposed site of the former Richborough Power Station in Kent and is part of a broader energy campus including the connection points for the 1GW Nemo interconnector with Belgium, the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm and Sosteneo’s own 249MW Sheaf Energy Park, which is currently under construction. We look forward to providing more updates on these critical infrastructure assets in 2025. Thanks to all who worked and advised on the transaction including NatWest Commercial and Institutional, Siemens Financial Services, Ashurst, DLA Piper, GHD, Aurora Energy Research, Lockton, PwC, and our project partner Pacific Green.
