Sharing this article from friend and colleague Nidia Martínez, Ph.D. of Howden, a trailblazer in the insurance industry (and, I might say, in the resilience industry). Just today I had two in-depth conversations on the role of insurance in the work we are doing around ocean and coastal resilience, innovation and project matching and finance, and the broader ability to plan for doing #precovery and holistic, equitable #resilience building. More of this needed if we are to truly be prepared.

The February 2025 #C3S Climate Bulletin reports significant temperature insights, registering the third warmest February on record globally. 🌡 Global average surface temperature: 13.36°C, 0.63°C above the 1991-2020 average. 🌡 1.59°C above pre-industrial levels, the 19th month in the past 20 to exceed 1.5°C. 🌍 European temperature: 0.44°C above the 1991-2020 average for the month, not within the top 10 warmest Februaries. 📈 Above-average temperatures noted in the Arctic, northern Chile/Argentina, and southwestern USA and Mexico. 📉 Below-average temperatures recorded in parts of North America and eastern Asia. 🌊 Sea surface temperatures over 60°S–60°N rose to 20.88°C, marking the second-highest February on record. 𝗘𝗦𝗠𝗔 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 On 14 February, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) published a final report on technical standards setting out the requirements for external reviewers of #EUGreenBonds. External reviewers provide an independent opinion on issuances of European Green Bonds. Their activities will be directly supervised by ESMA starting from 21 June 2026. 🌱 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼: 🔹 The skill and experience expected from senior management, board members and the appropriateness of analytical resources. 🔹 The assessment of sound and prudent management of the external reviewer, including its management of potential conflicts of interest. 🔹 The criteria applicable to outsourcing of assessment activities to third-party service providers. 🔹 The standard forms, templates and procedures for the provision of registration information. ESMA has also published a list of the external reviewers that comply with the requirements during the transitional period until 21 June 2026: https://lnkd.in/ddhZXR64 🔎 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: This final report is based on the results of a public consultation conducted by ESMA in the first half of 2024. This report contains the final version of the technical standards, together with a summary of stakeholder feedback to the consultation and how it was incorporated. 📅 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀: 📍ESMA’s proposals for Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) can be adopted by the European Commission as a Delegated Regulation. The European Commission now has three months to decide whether it will adopt the standards. Their adoption will trigger a three-month scrutiny period by the European Parliament and Council of the EU. 📍ESMA’s proposals for Implementing Technical Standards (ITS) can be adopted by the Commission as an Implementing Regulation. The European Commission now has three months to decide whether it will adopt the standards. 📍 If the European Parliament and the Council raise no objections, the standards will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will enter into force 20 days later, becoming directly applicable in all EU member states. 👉 Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/eAyHbp3a

📣 Il mercato delle obbligazioni green, social e sostenibili (GSS) in Italia nel 2024 ☘️ Secondo l'osservatorio di mercato di SustainAdvisory e i dati di Borsa Italiana, il debito green, social e sostenibile (GSS) emesso in Italia nel 2024 ha raggiunto i 26,9 miliardi di euro. Questo rappresenta una crescita del 12% rispetto al 2023 e del 18% rispetto al 2022, ma un rallentamento significativo rispetto al record di 32,2 miliardi di euro emessi nel 2021. Il volume cumulativo totale del debito GSS in essere alla fine del 2024 è di 129,5 miliardi di euro. 🌳 Con 2,9 miliardi di euro di volumi totali emessi, Snam S.p.A. Spa è stato il più grande emittente italiano di GSS nel 2024. Più del 44% delle obbligazioni GSS italiane sono state originate da società non finanziarie; il 22% dalle banche; e il 33% dal settore pubblico. 🌿 In termini di #temi di #investimento, questo è stato molto simile al 2023: le obbligazioni green sono rimaste dominanti, con il 60% delle emissioni. Il tema social, in linea con il 2023, ha raggiunto il 10% dei volumi emessi, mentre le obbligazioni legate alla sostenibilità (SLB) rappresentano il 30% del totale. #greenbonds #debito #capitalmarkets #sustainablefinance #KPIs #social #clima #transition #SDGs

The #EBA has just published the final Guidelines on the management of 🌱 Environmental, Social and Governance (#ESG) risks. ℹ️ ❔ What do they do? 🔸 They set out requirements for institutions for the identification, measurement, management and monitoring of ESG risks, including through plans aimed at ensuring their resilience in the short, medium and long term. Why are these GLs important? 💡 🤔 1️⃣ They contribute towards ensuring the safety and soundness of institutions as ESG risks intensify and the EU transitions towards a more sustainable economy; 2️⃣ They specify the content of plans to be prepared by institutions with a view to monitoring and addressing the financial risks stemming from ESG factors; 3️⃣ They support the preparedness of institutions for the transition.
