ボーイング787 #ドリームライナー を使用した #Trent1000 の耐久性強化パッケージの認証試験がすべて完了しました。この改良パッケージは、Trent 1000 TENにとって新たな１ページであり、「タイム・オン・ウィング」が2倍以上延びることで、当社のお客様に画期的な変化をもたらします。今後、認証を取得し、運用中および今後生産されるエンジンへの適用を楽しみにしています。

ロールス・ロイスの #STEM アンバサダーであるSusumu Kaminaga とKaoru Okamoto は、12月16日と23日の２日間、東京都立戸山高等学校を訪れSTEMワークショップを開催しました。参加した２５名の高校生は、コンデンサーに蓄えたわずかな電気エネルギーで飛行するコンデンサー・エアプレインの作成という課題に挑戦しました。初日は、同アンバサダーからロールス・ロイスの社業であるジェットエンジンの説明や、飛行機を安定して飛ばすためのしくみについて講義が行われ、参加者は興味を持って聞き入っていました。1週間の開発期間を経たプログラム２日目には、作成した飛行機の成果を披露し、設定されたゴールまでの距離を競いました。高校生からは、飛行機をまっすぐ安定して飛ばすのが難しかったが、自分たちでリサーチしたり試行錯誤しての開発が勉強になったなどの声が聞こえました。 ロールス・ロイスが毎年開催している #サイエンスキャンプ では、今後はコンデンサー・エアプレインという新しい課題に挑戦する予定です。来年もまた多くの「未来の #エンジニア 」に会えることを楽しみにしております。 Rolls-Royce's #STEM ambassadors Susumu Kaminaga and Kaoru Okamoto visited Tokyo’s Toyama High School on December 16 and 23 to hold a STEM workshop. The 25 participating students took on the challenge of building a “capacitor airplane,” a model airplane that flies using only the small amount of electrical energy stored in a capacitor. On the first day, the STEM ambassadors gave a lecture to a keen audience on Rolls-Royce's jet engines, as well as on the internal mechanisms that enable controlled flight. Over the following week, the students built and tested their own model planes, then shared their results and competed to see whose plane could travel the furthest. Many of the participants commented that it was difficult to keep their plane flying straight and steady, but that they learned a lot through trial and error and their own research. At Rolls-Royce’s next annual #ScienceCamp, we plan to include new capacitor airplane challenges. We look forward to meeting many more future #engineers there in 2025!

8月21-22日に「Rolls-Royce & BAE Systems サイエンスキャンプ2024」の決勝大会が開催され、予選を突破した4校26名が岐阜県立岐阜高校に集結、独自に開発した小型ホバークラフトの性能を競いました。また、学生同士の交流を通じてお互いの開発から得た学びを共有したり、ロールス・ロイスとBAE Systems両社の現役エンジニアから、開発のアドバイスや業界の興味深いエピソード、エンジニアのキャリアを選んだ背景や現在の業務について聞いたりと、体験と座学を含む充実した１日となりました。 The Rolls-Royce & BAE Systems Science Camp 2024 finals were held on 21-22 August. Twenty-six students from four schools competed on the performance of their unique model hovercraft programmed with automatic controls. The programme also encompassed focused student exchanges to share each other’s learnings.
