Last week, Africa Frontline First joined Africa CDC, donors, and stakeholders at a three-day health promotion conference in Uganda. Together with Living Goods, we showcased our work strengthening Uganda’s community health program. We're thrilled to see significant commitments from the government, including a $ 1 million increase in domestic funding for community health worker salaries, the allocation of 3.6% of the health budget for community health, and USAID's pledge to train 7,000 community health workers over the next three years. These efforts align with our mission, ensuring increased and coordinated financing behind country-led agendas for professionalized community health workers. We look forward to our continuing work with Living Goods under Project BIRCH to support Uganda in mapping resources, improving digital systems, and scaling the community health program.

"Teamwork makes the dream work." This couldn’t have been more true as we wrapped up our leadership retreat last week. It was inspiring to bring the team together last week to unite around our shared purpose: progress towards our goal of catalyzing $2 billion in funding to reach more than 200,000 professional community health workers and 100 million patients by 2030.

On this International Day of the Girl Child, we honor women like Martina, whose dedication as a frontline health worker strengthens the health and well-being of women and girls. At Africa Frontline First, we work to make financing more available for community health, ensuring that community health workers—most of whom are women—receive the support they need to improve maternal and reproductive health, and provide critical care to their communities. Investing in them is investing in the future of gender equity and healthcare for all.
On International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate the women health workers who break gender barriers and serve as role models for girls--like Martina, a community health supervisor in Grand Bassa County, Liberia. To travel between communities and health posts, Martina earned her motorcycle license, something few women in the country get the chance to do. The girls in the communities she serves say, "Aunty Martina can ride, so I can ride too." #DayOfTheGirl
