GSMA - Mobile for Development recently launched The State of Mobile Internet Connectivity 2024 report, an annual flagship publication which provides a comprehensive overview of the trends in global #connectivity, plus insights on key barriers to mobile internet adoption and use. Despite the well-known socio-economic benefits of digital technologies, nearly two-thirds of Sub-Saharan Africa remains disconnected from mobile internet. With the current trends, closing this digital gap may take another 30 years, but we have the power to change that trajectory! Bridging the usage gap by 2030 could add a staggering $700 billion in GDP across Africa between 2024 and 2030. To achieve this, we need policy reforms that empower the telecommunications industry. Today, the GSMA, in partnership with mobile operators, Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy and the Communications Authority launched the Kenya #DigitalEconomy Report as well as the Digital Africa Index (DAI) and the Smartphone Affordability report (a case study of Kenya).
