Yesterday, ADM Capital Foundation delivered a statement for the Global Initiative to End Wildlife Crime (EWC) at the plenary of the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to United Nations Convention on Transnational Organised Crime (UNTOC), welcoming the submission of draft Resolution L.9, "Enhancing Measures to Prevent and Combat Crimes that Affect the Environment under the UNTOC and Its Protocols," tabled by Brazil 🇧🇷 , France 🇫🇷 , and Peru 🇵🇪.
In our statement which was presented by Ana Motamayor (Policy Advisor, EWC), we encouraged States to adopt the draft Resolution, and gave recommendations on language that we consider is currently missing from it, including reference to the extraordinary efforts made by Presidents, Ministers and Diplomats over the past decade to advance efforts to tackle wildlife trafficking, including through the adoption of six United Nations General Assembly resolutions and to recognise the role of rangers with law enforcement, as was done in these United Nations General Assembly resolutions since 2019.
It is crucial that we urgently intensify efforts to prevent and combat these serious transnational organised crimes, with a strong focus on enhancing international cooperation. This aligns directly with the core mission of the UNTOC, which was designed to foster global collaboration, including the development of additional protocols to address emerging threats.
