Most nation’s climate plans (NDCs – Nationally Determined Contributions) and policies are overlooking something extremely big: the mitigation and adaptation potential of the built environment. That’s why the World Green Building Council is co-developing an NDC Scorecard for Sustainable Buildings to support and encourage every country to #BeBoldOnBuildings in their NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution) submissions, due next year. The Scorecard tool will allow all policymakers, Green Building Councils and others to assess and compare their countries’ NDCs, and reveal where further action is necessary to increase the ambition and effectiveness of their NDCs and national policies so they are putting the sector on a trajectory for 1.5ºC. The tool is being co-developed by the World Green Building Council and five Green Building Councils (GBCs) – Green Building Council Brasil, Consejo Colombiano de Construcción Sostenible (CCCS), Egypt Green Building Council (Egypt GBC), Green Building Council Nigeria and Philippine Green Building Council – alongside local stakeholders including governments, to bolster local action that delivers on global priorities. As we begin #BuildingToCOP29, it is absolutely critical that the next batch of #NDCs accelerates the transition and closes the gap to 1.5°C to deliver on the goals of the #ParisAgreement. This can be achieved by not overlooking the role of buildings. 🖇️ Find out more: https://bit.ly/3YbKdBg #BuildingTheTransition #BuildingToCOP #BuildingToCOP29 #BeBoldOnBuildings

🏗️ How do we reduce emissions in the building sector? Finland shows us how. Green Building Council Finland has worked with organisations across construction, real estate and investment to develop 20 bespoke decarbonisation roadmaps. By providing the framework for organisations across the country to develop these roadmaps, companies can more effectively advance their #decarbonisation efforts by knowing where and how to reduce both embodied carbon (the carbon emissions associated with the creation of a building, such as materials) and operational carbon (the emissions related to the running of the building, such as energy use). This is known as Whole Life Carbon. Reducing a building's carbon output is crucial to demonstrating the #builtenvironment as a climate solution, as it currently contributes almost 40% of global energy related emissions. A spokesperson for the real-estate developer in Helsinki, Sponda Ltd, spotlighted that working with Green Building Council Finland reminded them that all the industries within the built environment are connected. She said: “Dialogue and joint innovation are crucial for us all to reach our carbon neutrality goals.” Green Building Council Finland produced these roadmaps as part of the European Regional Network (ERN) #BuildingLife project, which works across EU countries to ensure the entire lifecycle of a building is decarbonised. 4.4 billion people call cities their home – can our cities keep up? Throughout history, our cities have seen it all. But as cities grow, so do their challenges. Not only do cities account for 70% of global CO2 emissions, but the rise of extreme weather events such as floods, droughts and storms have led to costly impacts on basic services, infrastructure, housing, human livelihoods and health for city dwellers. Now more than ever, city leaders must unite to build resilient, sustainable cities and create innovative solutions for the future 🌍 (video by Earthrise Studio & Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM)) #SDG11 #SustainableCities #ClimateAction

Are we building cities for the future - or leaving it behind? 🏙️ A sustainable city prioritizes inclusive and sustainable urban spaces where communities can thrive as outlined in #SDG11. Yet, according to the 2023 SDG 11 Synthesis Report, we are not on track to meet most of these targets by 2030 unless there are major shifts in urban policy and investment. As urban populations continue to grow to more than double its current size by 2050, now is the time to act and shape the future of our cities. Join our dialogues at #WUF12 to highlight the local actions our cities need to take for a sustainable future 🌍 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dE-RsKHZ 👉 World Urban Forum #SustainableCities #UrbanDevelopment #ClimateAction #Urbanization

Green Building - Net Zero Roadmap It was a pleasure participating at the National Net Zero Roadmap for the Built Environment event organized by the Green Building Council of Mauritius (GBCM) on 11 September 2024 at RoofTop Ebene, Mauritius. The impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly evident and may soon reach irreversible levels if urgent action is not taken. Buildings, which contribute to 40% of global energy-related carbon emissions, play a significant role in this challenge. Recent estimates indicate that emissions from cities, where buildings are a major component, account for 62-72% of total emissions (IPCC, 2022). The latest IPCC AR6 Synthesis Report warns that current policies may lead to a global average temperature rise exceeding 1.5 degrees this decade, with a potential increase of 2.8 degrees by the end of the century. This working session was crucial for advancing the efforts towards a sustainable and resilient built environment in Mauritius, It aimed at: . Reviewing and defining the draft roadmap . Identifying priorities, challenges, and opportunities . Discussing strategies for effective implementation Thanking the Chairman of the GCBM Taariq Mauthoor C.Eng. MSc.FCIBSE and Tony Lee Luen Len from Sustainable Green Building (Mauritius) for the invitation and for giving me the opportunity to share my insights from the Green Finance perspective. At Lineage Invest, we actively engage with our clients on capital raising for the financing of various projects. #GreenBuilding #GreenFinance #SustainableFinance #NetZeroEmissions
