What is the value of responsible forest stewardship for biodiversity? Two years ago, we launched an initiative to fast-track Biodiversity Assessments in FSC-certified forests. Together with WWF, IKEA, and other partners, we have been working to enhance the understanding and monitoring of the effects of FSC certification on biodiversity. Today, on #COP16 Forest Day, we share the initial findings that indicate positive impacts of FSC certification: 🌿 In Brazilian FSC-certified plantations and their set-asides, we identified over 300 threatened species—primates, reptiles, plants, birds, and large mammals. 🌿 In Finland, FSC certification is associated with a large increase in area (460%) dedicated to conservation, compared to the conservation area set by law. 🌿In Sweden, key forest indicators and red-listed species have remained stable in certified forests over the past two decades. 🌿FSC-attributable set-aside areas enhance forest connectivity in both Brazilian and Finnish landscapes. Learn more about the findings and the project here: https://lnkd.in/e2sgUMaQ Come talk to us at COP 16 to learn how FSC sets the gold standard for biodiversity protection in certified forests! //Photos by iStock, FSC/ Jonathan Perugia #COP16Colombia #PeaceWithNature #ForestsForAllForever

The opening words of the United Nations charter are still as relevant as they were on 24th October 1945. WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED... come together and work across our differences of cultures, geographies, countries, politics to take the UN- GBF Framework from agreement to action. From COP16 Colombia we want to share our appretiation to the United Nations for their 79th anniversary and renew our commitment to work with UN agencies, institutions, communities and businesses to ensure a better future for all. #UNDay2024 #ForestsForAllForever

Yesterday, the Forest Stewardship Council, European Commission, WWF Colombia joined the The World Bank Group to discuss how the EU's deforestation-free regulation (EUDR) can help protect forest biodiversity and support sustainable supply chains at COP16 Colombia. Matteo Mascolo, FSC's Lead for EU affairs and engagement highlighted that "If are serious about tackling global systemic challenges such as #deforestation, we must be willing to bear a degree of discomfort and turn the pressures of change into opportunities and solutions to support implementation and compliance of global sustainability policies. FSC is not the only solution, yet it is a key part of the overall solution." #COP16 #PeaceWithNature #EUDR #ForestsForAllForever

Fighting Deforestation Together: FSC at the G7 in Rome Forests play a crucial role in combating climate change and biodiversity loss, emphasized the FSC Director General Subhra Bhattacharjee during her speech at the G7 event 'Forests for the World,' held at Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in Rome on 15 October. The event was organized under the Italian presidency of G7. Here are some highlights from the speech: ✅ Forests cover 4 billion hectares globally, yet only one-quarter is protected or certified. Dr Bhattacharjee underlined the need for a whole-of-society approach, where governments, the private sector, and civil society collaborate to safeguard our forests. ✅ The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) presents an opportunity to drive sustainable forest management at the EU level. FSC is ready to lead, offering a comprehensive solution to support EUDR implementation through our new initiative 'FSC Aligned for EUDR': https://lnkd.in/dB6UjZiW #G7 #EUDR #ForestsForAllForever #DeforestationFree // Photos by FSC/ Ewa Hermanowicz
