Aquatic Foods for Healthy People and Planet
Perihal kami
WorldFish is an international, nonprofit research and innovation institution that creates, advances and translates scientific research on aquatic food systems into scalable solutions with transformational impact on human well-being and the environment. Its mission is focused on SDG 2: Zero Hunger but pays special attention to SDG 14: Life Below Water, leveraging both of these goals to score progress on other multiple SDGs. Research explores the potential of aquatic food systems as an important source of food and their role in the global transformation of food systems toward healthier and sustainable diets in the face of climate crisis. For over 45 years, WorldFish has firmly established itself as a global leader in research and innovation in sustainable and equitable aquatic food systems. Its work has enhanced the lives of millions of low- and middle-income people who depend on aquatic food systems for food, nutrition, livelihoods and overall well-being. Supported by a diverse network funders and investors aligned to shared goals, it has a global presence in 20 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific with 460 staff of 30 nationalities, deployed where the greatest sustainable development challenges can be addressed. WorldFish is part of One CGIAR, the world’s largest agricultural innovation network, whose mission is to “end hunger by 2030 through science to transform food, land and water systems under threat of climate change.” WorldFish is committed to promoting a work environment where diversity and inclusion is valued and we seek to have gender balance in the organization. We aim to also seek balance across other diversity dimensions. People in WorldFish are treated equally irrespective of gender, ethnicity/race, national or social origin, disability, religion, political affiliation, age, family size, marital status or any other form of personal identity.

📣 Excited to announce our 'Illuminating the Multidimensional Contributions of Small-Scale Fisheries' Nature Magazine publication was featured in FODDER, the food systems newsletter by TABLE at the University of Oxford. In their blue/seafood edition, the writers explored why fish and other aquatic foods are often excluded in food system debates despite contributing to at least 20% of global dietary intake across six essential micronutrients. Sign up to FODDER to get a fortnightly round-up of the latest news and research in food systems: https://lnkd.in/g29wqgBv #AquaticFoods #FoodPolicy #FoodSystems #BlueEconomy #SharedProsperity

🎉 Celebrating 50 years of science for a better future! 🐟 For over three decades, GIFT tilapia has been developed through selective breeding to improve growth, resilience, and adaptability to support sustainable aquaculture. Since the 1980s, researchers worked to address the challenges faced by small-scale fish farmers by creating a faster-growing, hardy strain of tilapia that thrives in diverse environments. Today, GIFT continues to evolve with advancements in genetic research, helping to enhance productivity, climate resilience, and disease resistance.
