Aquatic Foods for Healthy People and Planet
Perihal kami
WorldFish is an international, nonprofit research and innovation institution that creates, advances and translates scientific research on aquatic food systems into scalable solutions with transformational impact on human well-being and the environment. Its mission is focused on SDG 2: Zero Hunger but pays special attention to SDG 14: Life Below Water, leveraging both of these goals to score progress on other multiple SDGs. Research explores the potential of aquatic food systems as an important source of food and their role in the global transformation of food systems toward healthier and sustainable diets in the face of climate crisis. For over 45 years, WorldFish has firmly established itself as a global leader in research and innovation in sustainable and equitable aquatic food systems. Its work has enhanced the lives of millions of low- and middle-income people who depend on aquatic food systems for food, nutrition, livelihoods and overall well-being. Supported by a diverse network funders and investors aligned to shared goals, it has a global presence in 20 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific with 460 staff of 30 nationalities, deployed where the greatest sustainable development challenges can be addressed. WorldFish is part of One CGIAR, the world’s largest agricultural innovation network, whose mission is to “end hunger by 2030 through science to transform food, land and water systems under threat of climate change.” WorldFish is committed to promoting a work environment where diversity and inclusion is valued and we seek to have gender balance in the organization. We aim to also seek balance across other diversity dimensions. People in WorldFish are treated equally irrespective of gender, ethnicity/race, national or social origin, disability, religion, political affiliation, age, family size, marital status or any other form of personal identity.

📣WorldFish in the News 🗞️ A new comprehensive study by the FAO reveals alarming projections for global fish catches if emissions aren't reduced. Countries like Peru and China could see a drastic decline in their fish stocks by up to 37% and 31%, respectively, by 2100 if global warming reaches 3-4°C. Small island states like Papua New Guinea and Tuvalu face even greater losses. Maintaining warming below 2°C could limit the decline to under 10%, highlighting the urgent need for climate action. Effective management and adaptation strategies are crucial for safeguarding the livelihoods of millions who depend on fisheries. WorldFish’s Michelle Tigchelaar says we already know enough for policymakers to take action now. Fisheries need to rise much higher on the climate agenda. 💡Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gChgb8cN #AquaticFoods #FoodSystems #FoodPolicy #BlueEconomy #FisheriesEconomics #FisheriesTrade #Fisheries #SmallScaleFisheries #Aquaculture #OceanGovernance #FoodSecurity #NutritionSecurity #LivelihoodSecurity #Equity #Justice #Climate #SharedProsperity

WorldFish is saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Thierry Chopin. His contributions to our work and the field of aquaculture and marine sciences have been deeply appreciated. Professor Chopin’s dedication and innovative approach have impacted all who worked with him at WorldFish. This is a significant loss for the aquaculture community, as his contributions have profoundly influenced research and innovation in Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture (IMTA). IMTA worldwide. His legacy will continue to inspire scholars globally. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family during this time.

📣 Today at #IIFET 2024, join us for a special session on the economics and policy of nature-positive, regenerative systems in Asia-Pacific aquaculture. Aquaculture, as a fast-growing sector, is subject to policy debate, consumer pressure, market demands, and regulatory compliance that places the sector in the vanguard of food system transformations. 💡This session will aim to assess how the sector might respond to complex policy environment and associated market and regulatory incentives, drawing on the experiences of the AQUADAPT program, supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). ⏰ 16:00-17:30 (GMT+8) 📍 Wembley Room #9, St Giles Hotel, Penang Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/gxbs2Sh6 #AquaticFoods #FoodSystems #FoodPolicy #BlueEconomy #FisheriesEconomics #FisheriesTrade #Fisheries #SmallScaleFisheries #Aquaculture #OceanGovernance #FoodSecurity #NutritionSecurity #LivelihoodSecurity #Gender #SocialInclusion #Equity #Justice #Climate #SharedProsperity
