Our future flies in clean skies.
Over ons
AeroDelft is a student team with one mission: prove that emission-free aviation is possible by developing the world’s first liquid hydrogen-powered aircraft. We are executing our mission with Project Phoenix, by designing and manufacturing two aircraft; a 1:3 scale prototype and a full scale Sling 4 aircraft both powered by hydrogen. Our aim is to build the first manned aircraft to fly on liquid hydrogen to remove CO2 emissions altogether by using this very potent fuel source. In 2022, our prototype aircraft took to the skies on batteries and our full scale aircraft successfully taxied on a runway. The prototype aircraft is set to take off on hydrogen in 2023 and our full scale aircraft in 2025! Although our main goal is to build the first manned aircraft to fly on liquid hydrogen, we firmly believe that the aviation industry needs to follow our example to remove CO2 emissions from the aviation industry altogether.

✈️ Hydrogen or battery electric? If once it seemed like hydrogen would have represented a better option for powering zero-emission airplanes, battery electric planes are also gaining traction thanks to technological advances. 💡 Last week, the Delft University of Technology’s Aerospace Innovation Hub @TU Delft, opened its doors to the press. Here, companies like Elysian Aircraft, AerogridUAV, VÆRIDION, AeroDelft, zepp.solutions can take off, immersed in a network of valuable connections and experts. They are all working towards the goal of making aviation cleaner, with different declinations. #Areodelft #H2flight #Wattkraft #Branderwal

Preparing for the Future of Hydrogen Flight! As we move closer to testing with liquid hydrogen (LH2), we’re getting familiar by practicing with liquid nitrogen (LN2). LN2 is a great training fluid, slightly more forgiving than LH2 since it’s non-flammable and a touch warmer at -196°C compared to LH2’s -253°C! 🥶 The prototype, also referred as The Iron Bird, was originally built by previous teams. This year, we’ve been diving deep into learning how to operate and manage its electronics ourselves. This was our second LN2 run of the year! The journey continues, more exciting developments are on the horizon! 💙
