Around 760 million people around the world lack access to energy. ⚡ Accelerating the shift to renewable energy is the need of the hour. As a founding member of Efficiency for Access, we are happy to share their latest report, ‘Leave No One Behind: Bridging the Energy Access Gap with Innovative Off Grid Solar Solutions.’ ✍️ Here are the key findings of that report you may find interesting: 🌟 Approximately 159 million off-grid solar fans, water pumps, refrigerators, and grain mills are needed to serve people who lack access to the electric grid. Less than 2% of this demand is being met, leaving more than half a billion people without life-changing appliances. 🌟 Closing the energy service gap in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia requires exponential growth in the appliance sector. This can be achieved by deploying significantly more capital, strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration, and developing coherent policies and innovative business models. 🌟 There is a significant market opportunity of $58 billion USD for off-grid solar fans, water pumps, refrigerators, and grain mills. 🌟 The off-grid appliance sector is characterised by a multitude of business models, reflecting a diverse range of technologies, end users, and operating environments. There is no one right business model; rather, chosen business models need to be managed appropriately. The Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo (#GOGSFE24) takes place next week in Nairobi, Kenya. This event will be the largest gathering of #OffGridEnergy professionals this year, bringing together over 1,000 experts, energy sector influencers, and manufacturers from more than 70 countries to accelerate #SustainableEnergy initiatives globally 🌏💡 With around 685 million people worldwide lacking access to electricity, and many more lacking access to modern forms of energy, it is crucial to address this challenge. By providing first-time access and accelerating the shift to #RenewableEnergy, we can support people to boost their incomes, while reducing global emissions. We're proud to support GOGLA in bringing people together to tackle these pressing issues. Here are three ways you can hear IKEA Foundation’s perspective at #GOGSFE24 👇 - On October 8, Jolanda van Ginkel will join a panel, organised by our partner SNV to discuss multi-sectoral cooperation for sustainable scaling of solar irrigation. https://lnkd.in/ekSwECkc - On October 9, Richa Goyal will speak on a panel addressing broken links in agricultural cold chains and how to fix them with Efficiency for Access. https://lnkd.in/eP6ek9K9 - On October 10, Ahmed Sameh will join our partner Acumen to explore the impact of the Productive Use of Renewable Energy on income generation for low-income communities. https://lnkd.in/eKDzwvBr Find out more at the Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo website 🔗 We look forward to seeing many of our partners there!
