The EITI is the global standard for the good governance of oil, gas and mineral resources.
Om oss
We believe that a country’s natural resources belong to its citizens. Our mission is to promote understanding of natural resource management, strengthen public and corporate governance and provide the data to inform greater transparency and accountability in the extractives sector. By becoming members of the EITI, 55 countries have committed to disclose information along the extractive industry value chain – from how extraction rights are awarded, to how revenues make their way through the government and how they benefit the public. Through participation in the EITI, countries agree to a common set of rules governing what has to be disclosed and when – the EITI Standard. In each country that has joined the EITI, a multi-stakeholder group, composed of government, companies and civil society supports implementation of the EITI Standard.

"By fully implementing the #EITIStandard, including rigorous monitoring of projects like #Sicomines, the #DRC can attract responsible investment, reduce #corruption and ensure that its resources benefit all citizens." - Mark Robinson, EITI Executive Director, delivering remarks at the DRC's national workshop on EITI implementation in Kinshasa 🇨🇩 this week. The national workshop, opened by H.E. Judith Suminwa Tuluka, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has convened 250 delegates from across DRC's #mining regions, from central and subnational governments, extractive industries, civil society and development partners, to strengthen extractive sector #governance and prepare for the upcoming EITI Validation in 2026. Key focus areas included systematic disclosure of the EITI #data, implementation of the #EITIStandard2023 and incorporating forestry and artisanal mining sectors into the EITI process.

Africa’s minerals are in demand, but are revenues meeting the continent’s needs? With public debt reaching USD 1.8 trillion in 2022, and resource-rich countries heavily reliant on revenue from raw material exports, #Africa stands at a crossroads. The global demand for critical #energytransition minerals brings a renewed opportunity to reshape Africa's economic landscape. With effective governance and #transparency, African countries can unlock a USD 325 billion mineral market. In our new blog post, EITI's Edwin Wuadom Warden and Gilbert Tawanda Makore and Zambia EITI's Ian Mwiinga explore how transparency can boost revenue, address debt sustainability and support development across the continent. 👉 https://lnkd.in/edkFjxW7

This week, we hosted a virtual Data Use Community of Practice (CoP) session, "Navigating the EITI website: Unlocking extractives #data." This webinar attracted participants from national secretariats, governments, academia and civil societies. The session aimed to create a peer learning opportunity for CoP members to learn from each other and from the EITI Data Team. Chomba Chileshe, Data Officer at Zambia EITI (ZEITI) 🇿🇲, presented ZEITI's data collection process, from scoping through cleansing, reconciliation and publishing. He also demonstrated #Zambia’s development of an online reporting portal, which aims to mainstream and visualise Zambia’s EITI data online, in real time. ➡️ portal.zambiaeiti.org/home EITI Data Team members showed CoP members how to access and download data on the EITI website. Through a simple data visualisation exercise, they highlighted how the share of government revenues from #extractives industries trended in relation to export revenues from extractives. The visualisation highlighted the increase in government’s share over the years of EITI implementation. The Data Team also demonstrated an open-source spreadsheet tool that provides a free alternative to Microsoft Excel. Feedback from the session highlighted the value of greater engagement between CoP members, and there was enthusiasm for further sessions on topics, such as using the EITI API for bulk access to data. For more information on the Community of Practice, please contact the EITI Data Team data@eiti.org

Last week, the EITI team was in #Quito, Ecuador 🇪🇨, engaging with stakeholders on the country's first Validation against the #EITIStandard and advancing #beneficialownership (BO) transparency in the extractive sector. The EITI team, including Validation Advisor Riley Zecca and Country Officer Jessica Buendía Sanchez, met with Ecuador’s multi-stakeholder group to discuss preliminary Validation findings, engaging representatives from government, industry, civil society and development partners. As part of the #OpeningExtractives programme - a joint EITI and Open Ownership initiative - we co-hosted a workshop on beneficial ownership transparency, led by consultant Germán Emanuele, bringing together representatives from government, industry and civil society. The team also held productive meetings with officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Internal Revenue Service and Superintendency of Companies to secure commitments and set a roadmap to progress on BO disclosures. Many thanks to the National Coordinator, Christian Arias, for coordinating the agenda, Enami Ep Ecuador for hosting several dialogues, and to all stakeholders for their commitment to transparency in Ecuador's extractive sector. We look forward to continuing our support for Ecuador's EITI implementation journey.

#Norway's beneficial ownership register is live! 🚀 Earlier this month, Norway 🇳🇴 launched its #beneficialownership register, accessible via the Brønnøysund Register Centre (Brønnøysundregistrene). Businesses have until 31 July 2025 to self-report, after which fines for non-compliance will apply. In addition to public authorities and entities subject to reporting obligations under the Money Laundering Act, the media, civil society organisations and higher education institutions will have access to data in the register. The government is also exploring broader public access to the register in the future. The register goes a long way to address the corrective action from Norway's previous Validation, and we welcome this key step towards stronger governance and #transparency! 👏 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dWhYnw9D
