"Without experienced seafarers, the integrated shipping industry as we know it will not survive," CTO Torger T. said in a meeting with the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries this week. The meeting gathered a range of maritime companies in Bergen to share perspectives on key challenges and opportunities for our sector. Torger focused on the importance of recruitment and supportive regulatory frameworks to ensure a thriving industry in the future. "Retaining competence and investing in people is vital, but the government policies we meet today do not support this mission. The schemes need to change to align with the industry’s needs." Thanks to Maritime Bergen and Bergen Shipowners' Association (Bergens Rederiforening) for facilitating the meeting, and to Minister Marianne Sivertsen Næss and her team for an interesting opinion-sharing session.

"Despite challenges, we can look back at a historically strong year in 2024," CEO Harald Fotland shares in an interview with journalist Ruben Njøtøy in Skipsrevyen. "We delivered several record-breaking quarterly results. The reasons for the strong performance are multifaceted. The market was very volatile throughout the year, but our employees onshore and at sea worked well and managed to leverage the fluctuations in an impressive way." The unpredictability continues in 2025. "2024 showed how quickly circumstances can change. At the same time, we notice some fundamental development trends, particularly within sustainability and climate risk, which we will incorporate into our strategic planning going forward." Fotland especially looks forward to the upcoming launch of suction sails on Bow Olympus and to welcoming new ships to the fleet. Barges in the jungle, terminals, and chemical tankers—Odfjell's story in Brazil is an ongoing adventure that keeps adding new chapters 🇧🇷 For Norwegian-born Knut Øvrebø, the journey began with a mission in the 1970s that was supposed to last six months. Instead, he put down roots and has since led our growing Brazilian shipping operations. "The first time I stood on the bridge and looked out over the ‘endless’ deck of tanks, it was a bit overwhelming. At the same time, it was very energizing. It's on the bridge of Odfjell's largest tankers I want to be," Anita Håvardsen says to Kystens Næringsliv editor Arvid Steen. She started as a trainee in 2020 and has just finished her cadetship. Early in the new year, she will debut as an officer, joining a growing number of women seafarers on board our ships. "I'm excited. It's important to stay humble and ask for help when needed. You can never know too much, and there's always something new to learn. I see a long career as an Odfjell officer ahead of me." As 2024 comes to a close, we look back at a year filled with impactful meetings that highlight the importance of collaboration in the maritime sector 👏 Throughout the year, we have seized the opportunity to strengthen relationships that drive innovation and progress across the industry 🙌 One notable event took place in Bergen in June, where we had the pleasure of welcoming specially invited guests to a tailored seminar. Among them were Chee Wai Leong, General Manager of SUMITOMO CHEMICAL ASIA PTE LTD, and Sara Johansson, Chartering Manager at Alcotra S.A. Their perspectives on the value of cooperation and communication align closely with our efforts to fully understand and respond to our customers' needs—and how we can tackle future challenges together. As Sara said: "Meeting up with people and getting to know them gives you a better understanding of how they work and how we can help each other move forward in this industry." Take a look👇 Many thanks to all our partners and everyone we've collaborated with through 2024 🙌
