This week's pou for #TerekiTaiThursday is Māramatanga - Knowledge and Awareness. Majority of our *Impact Buyers have identified that they have a champion in the organisation that pushes this kaupapa throughout their workplace. *Impact Buyers are Amotai buyers that have completed their Tere ki Tai assessment and are working on their action plans. It's tough shouldering supplier diversity alone, raising awareness and building capability exponentially elevates supplier diversity success for any organisation. Our BoP SDL, Jenna Gray, and Capability Manager, Paul Tukukino, held a lunch and learn with *Impact Buyer Jacobs yesterday. Over 30 staff learned about Amotai and how we support their organisation to achieve supplier diversity aspirations. The next step from raising awareness is building capability. Amotai support all procurement professionals and supplier diversity enthusiasts to expand their expertise through our Making Sense of Supplier Diversity workshop. Wherever your organisation is placed on the supplier diversity journey, we will support you to raise the flag and rally the your troops towards this impactful and inspiring cause. Amotai - Supplier Diversity NZ
Civic and Social Organizations
Connecting Buyers with Māori & Pasifika businesses
About us
Amotai has three main roles: We connect clients and buyers to Māori and Pasifika businesses; Amotai connects and matches public sector, private sector, iwi and non-government clients and buyers with Māori and/or Pasifika-owned suppliers. This is known as business-to-business (B2B) procurement. We build demand-side and supply-side capabilities; Successful supplier diversity and development requires that both the demand-side and the supply-side are ready and able to do this well. We provide practical advice and support to clients and buyers and Māori and Pasifika businesses. We promote supply chain diversity and development; Amotai also promotes and influences supplier diversity and development across Aotearoa. We play an important role in telling the story of supplier diversity and its benefits for clients and buyers, Māori and Pasifika economies and NZ Inc. Supplier diversity and development is a dynamic and evolving discipline. We are connected to the supplier diversity councils across the globe to ensure that policy and practice in Aotearoa continuously improves. This enables us to provide quality strategic advice on policy, legislation and programmes that support supplier diversity.

The Tere ki Tai survey is available to all Amotai BUYER members FREE! We had our first iwi member complete Tere ki Tai, Te Kotahitanga o Te Atiawa. Our Tere ki Tai lead, Paul Tukukino, had the privilege to take Joshua Hitchcock, Pou Amotake, General Manager Operations through the Tere ki Tai report and he shared some great whakaaro from an iwi lens. “People think that with iwi we have only our grant funding accessible to provide impact to our pakihi Māori. Our annual spend provides so much more opportunity to support our iwi pakihi Māori by contracting them to do our mahi.” Te Kotahitanga o Te Atiawa have looked at the organisation as a whole to provide impact, not just the programmes and services that they provide. Understanding what businesses are in their sphere and how they can involve those businesses in contract opportunities helps to lift iwi members, building stronger hapū and a thriving Māori economy. Reminder: Amotai provides free buyer memberships to Iwi organisations. This enables Iwi to work with Māori businesses that affiliate to their Iwi and gives them access to national opportunities. We encourage Māori businesses to register with their iwi and with Amotai. The directory allows buyers to filter based on Iwi. Supplier Diversity is not a radical fad. It has a rich and long lasting whakapapa / history that stems back to the Civil Rights movement under the Nixon administration in the US. Since the late 1960s supplier diversity has grown in leaps and bounds and is now a global movement. In our Making Sense of Supplier Diversity workshop we dive into the whakapapa of supplier diversity, how it arrived in Aotearoa and how over 180 organisations are practicing supplier diversity across their business. At Navigate 2024 Amotai was accepted as a member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council. Our membership supports us in bringing global supplier diversity expertise and best practice to our Amotai members here in Aotearoa. Register for Making Sense of Supplier Diversity workshop to understand how Amotai is leveraging this global expertise to progress supplier diversity in Aotearoa New Zealand.
