Joint Simulation Exercise for Climate-Induced Event Response in Gilgit & Chitral The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) Pakistan recently organized a comprehensive Joint Simulation Exercise in Hopper Gahkuch, bringing together teams from Gilgit and Chitral. Over 100 participants, including 26 women, representing Search and Rescue (SART), Disaster Assessment (DART), Community Emergency Response (CERT), Village Emergency Response (VERT), and Rescue 1122, took part in managing real-world climate-induced event scenarios. This scenario-based exercise underscores the importance of anticipatory actions to reduce risks and enhance community safety through skilled, trained volunteers. AKAH Pakistan Engaged Communities in Immit Valley through Behavioral Change Communication Theater Play As part of the project “Promoting an Integrated Development Approach to Combat Climate Induced Displacement (PIDACCID),” funded by the European Union and supported by the Lives in Dignity Grant Facility (UNOPS), Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) Pakistan recently organized a powerful Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) Theater Play in Immit Valley, Iskomen, Ghizer. Local artists delivered important messages in Wakhi and Khowar languages around climate change impacts, environmental hygiene, hazard and risk mapping, emergency preparedness, and the role of community emergency response teams. The play, performed in local languages, reached over 300 community members from 7 villages: Immit Sultanabad, Rehamatabad, Shamsabad, Tashnalote, Bilhanz, Dewardass, and Ganjabad. The event was attended by local leaders, council representatives, school officials, and volunteers from forestry and emergency response teams. As part of our World Water Week campaign, Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan hosted a powerful sensitization session and community tour in Badin, Sindh. Subject experts shared crucial insights on climate change-driven water scarcity and how we can all play a role in better water management. Over 50 community members, including school children and teachers, visited the newly installed water filtration plant in Ali Murad Chandio village. Thanks to the "Increasing Resilience and Helping People Recover" project, this plant now provides clean drinking water to 500+ families, addressing the dire need for safe water. Interactive session with stakeholders on water management for sustainable development! The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan hosted an engaging session in Bumburet, Kalash Valley, Chitral, on climate change, water scarcity, and sustainable water management. The event brought together 48 participants, including community members, representatives from Kalash Village Development Authority (KVDA), education, tourism, police, forestry, and local volunteers. Subject experts including the Water Quality Analysts and Social Organizers, delivered insightful presentations on AKAH’s water and sanitation education programme across the country, shared the best practices from Kalashgram Rumbur Drinking Water Supply Scheme, impact of climate change on water resources in Chitral, and water management at the local level. This initiative is part of the Water Week Celebration, organized under the project Increasing Communities’ Resilience to Climate Change (ICRCC), funded by the Royal Embassy of Denmark.
