EIT Food leads the world’s largest and most dynamic food innovation community. At EIT Food, we accelerate innovation to build a future-fit food system that produces healthy and sustainable food for all. EIT Food is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). At EIT Food North-East, we work closely with a diverse network of partners across Nordics, Baltic countries and Central and Eastern Europe. This includes key industry players, agrifood startups, research centres and universities from our region. Together, and as part of the wider EIT Food Community, we are all working together to deliver an innovative and entrepreneurial food sector. We are particularly focused driving innovation in the areas of sustainable aquaculture, sustainable agriculture, and targeted nutrition.   • 💡The European Commission has identified reducing the consumption of animal-based products as a key element in the transition towards a sustainable food system.    💙 At the heart of this transition is EIT Food Protein Diversification Think Tank – uniting science, innovation, policy, and entrepreneurship to unlock the potential of new protein sources. From legumes to mycelium, from biotech to behavioral change - we don’t ask if change will come, but how to make it inclusive, trusted, and effective.     Why are 76% of Europeans prioritising health in their food choices, yet remain sceptical of new products? That question reflects one of the many challenges discussed yesterday at "Advancing Food Systems in Europe", hosted at the NCBR Office in Brussels under the patronage of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union.   🔬 It starts with trust. Klaus G. Grunert (Aarhus University) explained why consumer trust is crucial in making healthier, more sustainable food choices the norm. Without trust, even the best innovations struggle to reach the market. "Consumers seek information, but they need clear information. Trust comes from transparency and simplicity. Our role is to guide them by making choices accessible without overwhelming them"- he said.   🧬 Science is the foundation. Following this, Carsten Carlberg (InLife) explored vitamin D’s role in healthy ageing and introduced some of the EIT Food Healthy Ageing Think & Do Tank work.   🚀 Then comes innovation. The industry session, led by Adam M. Adamek, PhD (#EITFood) showcased solutions that could redefine the future of food:   ✅ Fermentation breakthroughs – Probios, extending shelf life by 42% while reducing preservatives. ✅ Personalised nutrition – NutriDesign Lab, translating health research into real food solutions. ✅ Regenerative agriculture – Živá Záhrada, connecting 380+ farmers to sustainable supply chains. ✅ AI-powered farming – Agribot, cutting food waste and increasing yields. The session featured a discussion with Paweł Harycki (EIT Food) and startups on the importance of integrating health-focused food innovations into everyday choices.   And yet, innovation alone isn’t enough. As Adam Adamek put it: "The most promising breakthroughs happen when startups and industry work together to turn ideas into real impact. By supporting over 200 industry partnerships across Europe, funding research, and accelerating startups, EIT Food ensures that innovation doesn’t just stay in the lab – it reaches consumers, improves health, and drives real change in the food system."   📢 Finally, the bigger picture. The policy session addressed how to ensure food innovation reaches consumers, not just research labs. Iwona Kieda (FoodForce Network & InLife), emphasised the need for strong partnerships between research, policymakers, and industry to turn science into real-world solutions.   Do you know of other great examples of food innovation making a real impact?     Is it a new era for #biotech collaboration? 🌱🔬 Biotech is in the spotlight like never before, and here at #BIOKET in Brussels, we're diving into the key topics shaping its future. At this pivotal moment, we're thrilled to share insights and discuss what lies ahead.    📊 We’ve launched The Harnessing the Economic and Environmental Benefits of Advanced Biotechnology report, developed by McKinsey & Company in collaboration with EIT Food and Partners — The Good Food Institute, L'Oréal, Evonik, dsm-firmenich, Arsenale Bioyards, Invert, Lallemand, Darwin International, Basecamp Research, Cradle, and others, as part of the AB4S Advanced Biotech for Sustainability initiative.    This report highlights biotechnology's transformative potential, projecting by 2040:   🌍 Carbon abatement of 3-4 gigatons of CO₂ (5% of global emissions),   🌍 Land savings of 2-4 million square kilometres,   🌍 Freshwater savings of 250-500 billion cubic meters annually,   🌍 $1 trillion in economic value creation, including $0.6 trillion driven by advancements in #agriculture and #food.    It also offers executives, investors, and policymakers actionable insights to unlock this potential! 👉 Got interested? He emphasised that companies must move beyond words to concrete actions, including financial commitments.   💬 Richard Zaltzman on collaboration: “We discussed how to build momentum in this race, which hinges on companies making real commitments. No one is coming to save them — there’s no fairytale ending. Companies must act themselves. Financial commitment is key.
