🌟 What a ride! Here’s your #NextBite24 recap - full of breakthroughs, bold ideas, and the future of food innovation. 🚀 🚀 #Protein diversification was one of the key focuses of our discussions, as we explored how we can make nutritious food more affordable. With food prices rising, 𝟴.𝟯% 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻-𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆, making this shift more crucial than ever. During the panel on the topic, Max Schulman, Senior Advisor at MTK ry – Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners, pointed out the lack of a clear protein strategy from the #EU Commission, showing the complexities of aligning on such a critical issue for the future of European food systems. 🚀 Cliona Howie del Río, Director of Data Impact Systems at EIT Food, emphasised the need for standardised frameworks to measure environmental impact: "While labelling alone won’t save the planet, it remains an important tool in educating consumers on making informed, sustainable choices." One of the most inspiring messages from this year's #NextBite 24 came from Marie-Louise Boisen Lendal, CEO of Tænketanken Frej, who reminded us that real change begins when we challenge ourselves to engage with different perspectives: "We live in bubbles, surrounded by people with similar interests and preferences, and we need to expand them. To truly make an impact, we must engage with those who think differently and bring diverse perspectives to the table." This idea was echoed throughout the event, as experts and innovators from diverse sectors came together to tackle the future of food. Whether it’s building bridges between #agricultural societies and #environmental organisations or driving #investment in #sustainable technologies, collaboration across boundaries is key to shaping the next chapter of our food systems. Thank you for joing us at #NextBite 2024! Were you part of Next Bite? 👉 Share your favourite moments in the comments - we’d love to hear what stood out to you and see any photos you captured! 📸

We’re wrapping up an exciting first day at EIT Food’s biggest event of the year, #NextBite2024! As our CEO Richard Zaltzman captured, "We're not just here to talk - we’re here to act. To do that, we need three key ingredients: 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 - driven by startups and students; 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - from pioneers and entrepreneurs; and 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 - because together, we make change happen. When we give space for hope to grow, change becomes possible." This spirit of hope and innovation was evident throughout the discussions, such as during the panel: From Waste to Resource: Pioneering Circular Economy in #Agrifood. “By 2040, we want to see factories efficiently extracting high-value proteins from plants, flowers, and other natural resources. Achieving this will require scaling technologies, hiring top talent, and attracting significant investment. Cross-sector collaboration is essential to realizing this vision.” - said Magdalena Kozłowska, Co-Founder & CEO of our partner NapiFeryn BioTech Kacper Kossowski, Co-Founder of EcoBean, spoke about overcoming challenges in sustainability: “Securing funding is one of the biggest hurdles, but with support from initiatives like #EITFood, we’re turning coffee waste into valuable resources. It’s a step toward the #circulareconomy we aim to achieve by 2040, and though the journey is tough, we’re moving forward with optimism.” 🌍💡 Many thanks to the incredible panelists for their valuable insights: 🔹Lorraine Allen, Incubator Business Expert at EIT Food 🔹Jakub Emanuel Malec, Sustainable Food Manager | Żabka Polska 🔹Dario Toso, Product #Sustainability & #CircularEconomy Manager | Lavazza Group 🔹Eva Nordberg Karlsson, Professor of #Biotechnology | Lund University Stay tuned as #NextBite continues tomorrow with more inspiring discussions! Let’s keep building the future of food together. 🌱 #ImprovingFoodTogether #FutureOfFood

According to Eurostat, 54% of food waste occurs in households.   One of our partners, the Bank Żywności w Olsztynie (Food Bank), has been actively working to combat food waste for years, rescuing food and supporting those in need. “Our mission is not only to save food but also to educate society about responsible consumption,” says Aneta Janikowska, Director of Education at #FoodBank   Together, we organized the “Shop&Cook” workshops, which were part of a two-day event under our international project SUCCESS (Supermarkets and Consumers Collaborate Towards Easy Sustainable Strategies: https://lnkd.in/eqay357F). These workshops taught participants how to plan purchases and prepare meals sustainably. “Participants focus on reducing meat consumption, increasing legumes, and minimizing food waste for a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle,” adds Michalina Jakubowska. 📸 We’re excited to share photos from these workshops, where participants put theory into practice!   🌍 You too can become our partner! At #EITFood, we believe strong communities are key to transforming the food system.
