  • Our food choices play a huge role in determining how our brain decides to function. 🧠 Whether it be improving concentration and focus, boosting your memory or reducing anxiety and stress, what you consume can help. Let's take a look at 3 food picks that can benefit you going forward 👀 🌾 Wholegrains: contain glucose which is fuel for the brain and supports concentration and focus. ❗ Tip: Avoid eating too few healthy carbs or eating too much fast-realising ones may lead to lead to irritability, brain fog and affect your mood. 🍣 Oily fish: contains essential fatty acids that can't be made by the body. These fats are important for healthy brain function as well as for the heart and joints. ❗Tip: If you're vegan or vegetarian, you can find essential fatty acids in seeds such as hemp and chia, or consider a plant-based supplement from micro-algae 🥚 Eggs: are great B-rich foods and are found to help with healthy brain aging. Other B-rich foods includes dairy and chicken. ❗Tip: If you're vegan or vegetarian, you may choose to opt for fortified foods such as plant milks. What's a go-to food of your choice? Let us know in the comments 👇 #Vegan #Vegetarian #InternationalDayofHappiness #NutritionAdvice

  • Have you ever wondered what happens in the ocean when offshore windfarms are being installed? 🌊 #Aquaculture is an important sector within the food system, with incredible businesses such as our partner PULCEA LTD helping to drive the innovation needed to keep up with public demand and to support the sector. 🌍🧍 PULCEA LTD have an active role in salmon farming. They have also invented an acoustic fluid which is demonstrating very effective underwater noise attenuation properties. 🌊 How does this help the aquaculture sector? 🐟 Their novel technology will help mitigate the underwater noise created during the installation phase of offshore windfarms, thereby improving the welfare of marine wildlife welfare who live in surrounding waters. 🐟 This is attracting great interest from the Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) industry including their OWF sponsors of TIGGOR2 and Launch Academy 2024. 🐟 To prove the validity of their concept in 2025, PULCEA LTD are focusing on assisting those ports interested in expanding their facilities to cope with the increasing demand from the OWF industry. 👉 To find out more about PULCEA LTD, visit their website (link in the comments!) #AquacultureInnovation #AquacultureResearch

This week, we are proud to have attended Europe's most important conference for Bioeconomy, BIOKET Bioeconomy Key Enabling Technologies platform, as a gold sponsor. How did we play a role and what are some key takeaways? 🚀 Our CEO Richard Zaltzman was part of a panel that launched the McKinsey & Company Advanced Biotech for Sustainability Report (follow us to find out more soon!) From this panel, we concluded that we need to raise our ambition, by not only gathering together around the table but also by putting some money on the table to achieve an interesting budget for the collaboration of cooperation and creation of the pre-competitive environment for biotech. 🚀Our call to action from this event is more so a call to reflection, to inspire others to really think about how we can move forward using technology, higher standards and finances from the voices and ambitious thoughts of others. 🚀We had an excellent experience at this conference. Our West director (and other EIT Food colleagues) had numerous interesting conversations. 🚀We had a successful workshop on our new biotechnology alliance(led by Lorena Savani and Kevin Camphuis) that allowed us to share valuable information and dive deeper into the topic. 💭 Richard Zaltzman, EIT Food CEO: “We discussed how to build momentum in this race, which hinges on companies making real commitments. No one is coming to save them — there’s no fairytale ending. Companies must act themselves. Financial commitment is key. While verbal agreements are common, real progress happens when companies invest money, pooling resources together.” 💭 Gulsah Uysal, EIT Food Region West Director: "Advanced biotechnology is and will remain a key technology in agrifood, making it more sustainable and accessible. It is also essential for securing Europe’s global competitiveness. With momentum building in this space, EIT Food is committed to accelerating innovation and driving impact together with our partners." • Are you interested in the aquaculture sector? Then our Strategic Partners Matís Iceland may be of your interest! 🐟 Matis are involved with some incredible #aquaculture projects that we think you may love to hear about! Keep reading to find out more. 👉 Energy2Feed (EIT Food Project) - https://bit.ly/3QVP725 This recent project was invented with the aim to develop and bring to market a viable omega-3 and protein rich aquaculture raw material. Since completion, the two main outcomes are 1) Next generation, high quality feed raw material and 2) The first ever truly sustainable microalgae! We are proud to share that the outcomes of the project led to an in-depth techno-economical understanding of this sustainable and scalable microalgae and its near-term usage in creating fish-free feed for Atlantic salmon and other important species. Matis are currently working on a new project called NextGenProteins! https://bit.ly/41APBQ3 NextGenProteins developed the production of three alternative proteins from microalgae, insects and single-cell (yeast) organisms and verified their usefulness in various foods and animal feeds in order to meet customers' needs and strengthen their confidence in alternative proteins proteins. Key findings include: 🌊Policy recommendations are vital in order accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable food system. 🌊Protein producers were given the opportunity to study, optimise, and upscale their production lines both upstream and downstream. 🌊Properties of the different raw materials was established, and improvements made of functional, bioactive and sensorial properties of the product. 🌊The NextGen proteins show lower carbon, water, and land footprints than conventional protein production. What do you think of these projects? Let us know! #matisiceland #sustinablefood #energy2feed #nextgenproteins #alternativeproteins

  • Earlier this week, in collaboration with our Delivery Partner UK Agri-Tech Centre, we hosted an innovation forum on the topic of #RegenerativeAgriculture! 🚜 Our attendees took part in multiple roundtable discussions that sparked debate around the challenges and opportunities with transitioning to regenerative agriculture using systems thinking. Here are our favourite key takeaways: ❇️ We need a range of perspectives on how we can collaborate on a regenerative agriculture transition. This event bought together experts and stakeholders from the agrifood supply chain, including farmer cooperatives, startups, producers and manufacturers, academia and research and retailers. ❇️ The role of innovation, policy, finance, education and collaboration were discussed in roundtables to spark crucial conversations around how we can overcome barriers and find effective solutions to transitioning to regenerative agriculture. ❇️ We need more opportunities for the agrifood supply chain and wider food system to come together to discuss how to collaborate to enable a transition to sustainable agriculture. These discussions should be a starting point for solutions and actions. Thank you to our partners UK Agri-Tech Centre. And thank you to the following colleagues and connections for presenting, moderating and organising such a great event that has brought real value for future activities and engagement involving #RegenAg. 🚀 Emma Chapelhow, Harry Langford, Michael Reardon, Annie Williams, Katherine Wotherspoon, Alicia Abendroth Vosloo, Laura Elphick, Régine Roncucci, Clementina Piani, Mercedes Groba.
