Swedish manufacturer NTT Group, known for delivering power transmission components, has taken durability to a new level by upgrading to Hardox® HiAce wear steel. Customer feedback has been outstanding as they see the steel holding up better even in the toughest environments. One of NTT’s recent challenges was a pulp and paper mill where their sliding steel plates were constantly worn down by the harsh conditions. Upgrading to the corrosion-resistant wear steel not only solved the customer’s issue but also increased product lifespan by up to two times. We’re going up! 🏗️   We’ve raised the first pillar for our new electric arc furnace building in Oxelösund, Sweden. It is a visual milestone in our transformation to carbon emission-free steelmaking, marking the next phase in our construction project as we move off the ground.   Each pillar is 45 meters long and weigh more than 60 tons, so transporting them from the harbour to our construction site required some heavy lifting and coordination. Our construction crew superbly anchored the first column last week and will raise 20 more over the coming weeks. 👏   🙋♂️ Where is the steel from you ask? Please join us in welcoming Per Elfgren as the new head of our Special Steels division! ⭐ Per first joined SSAB as a summer intern in Borlänge, Sweden, more than 30 years ago. Since then, he has held close to a dozen positions ranging from engineering to marketing and business development. During this time, he has helped develop Hardox® into one of SSAB’s best known brands – an impressive feat! 🙌 For the past eight years, Per has been Head of Market Development at SSAB Special Steels and part of the division’s management team. He has also overseen market development for Abraservice, a subsidiary to SSAB and a leading provider of wear parts. “I’m honored by the trust placed in me and super excited to lead the Special Steels division at a pivotal time for SSAB,” Per says. Per will take up his new position on November 1 when he will also become a member of SSAB’s group executive committee. He succeeds Johnny Sjöström, who recently became President and CEO of SSAB. #Leadership #FossilFreeSteel

Today marks an exciting new chapter for SSAB as Johnny Sjöström steps into the role of CEO. ✨ Johnny is no stranger to SSAB. As a group executive member and head of our Special Steels division, he has driven the development of premium products, that offer great value for our customers, and overseen investments in fossil-free steel technologies. Martin Lindqvist has worked for SSAB for 26 years, including nearly 14 years as President and CEO. This week, he is leaving his office for the last time. We are forever grateful for the memories and his remarkable contributions to SSAB and the steel industry. 🙌   Here are five key highlights to celebrate his tenure:   ✔️ Career track. Martin joined in 1998 as vice president of finance for SSAB strip products and worked his way up to become SSAB’s longest serving CEO thus far. ✔️ Enhanced safety. By fostering a culture of safety-first and employee well-being, SSAB’s safety performance improved significantly under Martin’s leadership. ✔️ Strategic growth. Martin championed the acquisition of Rautaruukki in Finland in 2014 and helped grow SSAB as a global leader in high-strength steel. ✔️ HYBRIT initiative. Martin was instrumental in creating the joint venture HYBRIT together with LKAB and Vattenfall, a move that has pioneered fossil-free steel production. ✔️ Sustainability leadership. Together with SSAB’s board, Martin set the ambitious goal of making SSAB a fossil-free company, challenging the notion of steel as a hard-to-abate industry. CEO Martin Lindqvist in the financial report for Q3 2024: “SSAB’s operating result for the third quarter of 2024 amounted to SEK 1,248 million. Maintenance cost amounted to SEK 950 million in the quarter, in line with forecast. Lower US plate prices impacted negatively compared to a year earlier. The market in Europe continued to be weak, whereas the market for high-strength steel was more resilient. We’ve got a new fossil-free steel partner and they’ve got big plans! Parmaco Oy intends to use our fossil-free steel throughout the entire structure of a new building. It would mark the first time all steel components in a building were made with pilot shipments of fossil-free steel. 🌱⚙ Parmaco expects to start construction in early 2025, with completion later the same year. The building is intended to serve as a model for future sustainable construction projects worldwide, demonstrating that it is possible to meet the growing demands for urban development without fueling climate change. "Our collaboration with Parmaco represents an exciting opportunity to showcase the potential of fossil-free steel in the construction industry,” says Olavi Huhtala, EVP and Head of SSAB Europe.
