Olavi Huhtala has worked in the steel industry for nearly four decades. Today he is leaving his office for the last time with a message to the industry he loves: “Keep pushing boundaries, embrace innovation, and maintain your commitment to safety and sustainability.” 🙌   We couldn’t agree more. Thank you Olavi for your unprecedented contributions to SSAB and the steel industry. Here are five key highlights from your tenure:   💎 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. Olavi began his career in 1987 as a sales engineer at Rautaruukki before becoming Head of Ruukki Metals and later SSAB Europe. 💎 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭. Olavi’s dedication to safety has set new benchmarks in the industry and fostered a safer working environment for all SSAB employees and contractors. 💎 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐢𝐞-𝐮𝐩. Olavi played a key role in the successful integration of SSAB and Rautaruukki in 2014, a combination he considers among the best in the corporate world. 💎 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. Under Olavi’s leadership, SSAB Europe moved toward premium offerings that help maintain competitiveness even during tough market conditions. 💎 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲. CEO Johnny Sjöström in SSAB’s financial report for Q4 and the full-year 2024: "SSAB’s operating result for the fourth quarter of 2024 amounted to SEK 487 (2,400) million. Maintenance cost was SEK 690 (1,080) million in the quarter. The operating result for the full year was SEK 7,860 (16,467) million. The markets in Europe and North America were generally weak, whereas SSAB's high-strength steel and other premium products were more resilient. Compared to a year earlier, prices in the USA were significantly lower and the weak market in Europe impacted SSAB Special Steels and SSAB Europe. We are thrilled to announce that Helena Norrman is joining SSAB as Executive Vice President & Head of Group Communications! ✨   This is a new role established in SSAB’s Group Executive Committee at an exciting time in our transformation to fossil-free steelmaking. Helena will take up the position by April 16.   Helena is an experienced communications professional with extensive knowledge in strategic communications, investor relations, public affairs, and marketing. She is currently partner and communications advisor at global communications consultancy Kekst CNC. Prior to that, she headed Marketing and Corporate Relations at global telecom company Ericsson where she was also a member of the executive team.   ”I’m extremely happy and grateful for the opportunity to lead SSAB's communications and marketing. Our transformation accelerates – what a difference three months can make!   🏗️ SSAB's slag formers production in Oxelösund, Sweden, has been moved to a new raw materials hub and the old building is gone. In the future, containers filled with metal scrap destined for our new electric arc furnace will line this area.   👀 Watch closely and you can see the facility disappear in the background as the pillars for the new EAF building come up. Our amazing crew has now raised all 20 pillars and built the eastern façade of the construction hall. These massive blocks of concrete will create a sound barrier to mitigate the noise from the EAF. 🌱 Once the transformation in Oxelösund is complete, it will remove 3 percent of Sweden’s CO2 emissions.   #SSABOxelösund #EAF #FossilfreeSteel #SteelProduction
