As part of London International Disputes Week 2024, YSIAC organised an event on 7 June 2024, hosted at the Skadden London office. The panel discussion explored the latest edition of the draft SIAC rules and addressed current issues faced by arbitration users. The panel included SIAC Registrar Kevin Nash, YSIAC Council member Fatima Ghaith, Rajendra Barot, Montek Mayal, CFA, CVA and Tatiana Minaeva. The discussion was moderated by YSIAC Council EMEA Regional Lead David Hu. Around 100 participants from various jurisdictions attended the event in person and online. The diverse panel shared their views and insights on topics such as third-party funding, confidentiality and information security, multiparty arbitrations, and the use of tribunal-appointed experts. The lunchtime seminar concluded with a networking session and drinks. On 12 July 2024, a YSIAC Coffee Talk was held in Shanghai, China on career development for the young generation in international arbitration. The event was opened with remarks from Yuxian Zhao, Counsel, Han Kun Law Offices, and Gloria Lim, CEO, SIAC, followed by keynote speeches by Jennifer Lim, Co-Chair, YSIAC Council, and Mariana Zhong, APAC Lead, YSIAC Council. Moderated by Chengdong “C.D.” Xing, Member, YSIAC Council, the panel speakers Alan Li, Xin Liu, Michael (Haomin) Zhang, Yixuan Zhu, Members, YSIAC Council, Vivienne Li Weiyan, and Yang Liu, shared their views and experiences on career paths in international arbitration. As a side event of the SIAC China Conference 2024, the event provided a platform for younger arbitration talents to exchange ideas and build up connections. Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) held its annual China Conference on 11 July 2024 in Shanghai, China. The conference was opened by Welcome Remarks from Gloria Lim, CEO, SIAC, followed by opening speeches by Edwin Tong SC, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Second Minister for Law and Zhang Xiong, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. During the conference, SIAC signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with three Bar Associations: Jiangsu Lawyers Association, Shanghai Lawyers Association, and Shandong Lawyers Association, to strengthen cooperation and promote best practices in international arbitration. With leading experts and legal practitioners in attendance, the conference drew more than 180 attendees and featured keynote speeches by Lucy Reed, President, SIAC Court of Arbitration and Christopher Lau, SC, Chartered Arbitrator, and closing remarks by Siraj Omar, S.C., Member, SIAC Board of Directors. Moderated by Lijun Cao, Jessica Fei, Members, SIAC Court of Arbitration, and Theng Fong Hee (许廷芳), the panel speakers Hock Keng Chan, Member, SIAC Court of Arbitration, Chen Jian, Zhida Chen, Kian Heong Hew, Henry Huang, Alan Li, Vivienne Li Weiyan, Joan Lim-Casanova, Albert Marsman, Ong William, Melvin See, Dr. Minli Tang, Wang Weijun, Fang ZHAO, and John (Zhiqing) Zou, discussed the Languages and Culture of International Arbitration; Arbitration Procedures: Balancing Considerations of Speed, Quality and Due Process; and Harnessing Technology to Advance Core Values of International Arbitration.
