Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan delivered an inspiring speech at our Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) Business Connect event today, highlighting the need for Singapore to harness the ongoing chip upcycle to grow the local semiconductor sector. Key Takeaways: 📈 Riding the Recovery Wave: The global semiconductor industry, rebounding from last year’s downcycle, is set for stronger growth with increasing demand for consumer electronics like smartphones and PCs. 🔗 Strategic Role: Singapore is a crucial player in the global chip supply chain, contributing 5% to semiconductor wafer fabrication capacity and 20% to semiconductor equipment output. 💼 Investment Destination: Our strong and diverse ecosystem, skilled talent pool, and enduring partnerships with leading global companies make Singapore a preferred investment hub, creating high-quality jobs for Singaporeans. 🏭 Manufacturing 2030 Plan: The government aims to expand the manufacturing sector by 50% by 2030, emphasizing the need to stay competitive and secure our share of the growing semiconductor market. 🤝 Supporting SMEs: Initiatives like the Partnerships for Capability Transformation scheme foster collaborations between SMEs and multinationals, helping smaller players grow and extend their global reach. Enterprise Singapore’s international trade missions and networking opportunities further support this goal. 🔬 R&D Investments: The government has injected S$3 billion into the Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2025 initiative and launched the National Semiconductor Translation and Innovation Centre earlier this year to bolster R&D efforts. The Semiconductor Business Connect 2024 is in full swing, and it's not over yet! The PM session is about to begin, featuring exciting discussions on sustainability in semiconductor manufacturing and collaboration opportunities in India. Stay tuned for more insights and opportunities! #SingaporeSemiconductors #SSIA #Innovation #Manufacturing2030 #GlobalGrowth #SemiconductorBusinessConnect2024 https://lnkd.in/gTXB-jqE

🌟 Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) had a fantastic time at "Collaborate to Innovate: Sustainable Business Strategies with Additive Manufacturing"! NAMIC Singapore 🌟 As proud supporters of shaping our future industry, we explored how collaboration between polytechnics, SMEs, and industry leaders can drive innovation and growth in Singapore's manufacturing sector. The event featured insightful segments on "Industry Journey and Use Cases" and "Polytechnic Sharing of Capabilities," providing valuable perspectives on real-world applications of AM and the advanced capabilities offered by polytechnics.
𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 You’ve probably heard of Additive Manufacturing (AM) and in particular, 3D printing – the buzz words today. But what exactly is AM, how can it be used to sustainably boost one’s business, and what’s the future of AM? These and other issues were addressed in a seminar themed “Collaborate to Innovate: Sustainable Business Strategies with Additive Manufacturing”, jointly organised by Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, and Temasek Polytechnic, and attended by more than a hundred participants at MBS on 19 July 2024. Keynote speaker, Dr Chaw Sing HO, CEO of NAMIC Singapore, highlighted the global and local advancements in AM, while industry speakers, Ee Kid Ho (GE Aerospace), Rangasamy SUREJ (GlobalFoundries), Dr Yongjie Zhang (ST Engineering), and Jia Hong Lim (Pelagus 3D), shared their companies’ respective AM journeys, including the hurdles they overcame amidst people’s shifting mindsets, and the importance of certification & qualification. Speakers from the three polytechnics then shared the possibilities of AM, highlighting how polytechnics can play a vital role in supporting this AM ecosystem to bridge the needs of SMEs and MNCs. A panel discussion, moderated by Dr Alex Liu (ASTM Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence), with panellists Anne Ho (Enterprise Singapore SG), Dr Guoying Zheng (ST Engineering), Daniel Tan (Pelagus 3D), and Mack Hee (Forefront Additive Manufacturing), then explored how AM can boost the manufacturing sector in Singapore. Big thanks to all our speakers and panellists, as well as Enterprise Singapore, NAMIC Singapore, Association of Singapore Marine & Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI), AutomationSG, Singapore Manufacturing Federation, Singapore Precision Engineering And Technology Association, and Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA), for making the event a success! #CollaboratetoInnovate
