In Singapore, semiconductor #manufacturing makes up 8% of GDP and is powered by a 35,000-strong workforce. To prepare young people for careers in the #electronics industry, leading companies have partnered with our local institutes of higher learning to give students a head start. The latest partnership is between Siltronic AG and Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (VIS). As part of their MOU with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), they will provide advice on curriculum development for ITE’s Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) courses and offer internship opportunities to students from relevant courses, such as Higher Nitec in Electronic Engineering. Over 500 ITE students are set to benefit from this initiative. ITE will also help train employees from both companies, who are looking to upskill. These MOUs were signed at the Electronics Industry Day. An annual event organised by the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA), it brought together leading #semiconductor companies to showcase their cutting-edge technologies and highlight the career opportunities on offer in the industry.
