Celebrating 8 Years of MTCC Caribbean & Women in Leadership! Today marks 8 years since the establishment of MTCC Caribbean, a milestone in advancing sustainable shipping and decarbonization in the region. As we celebrate this achievement, we also recognize the women leading the charge within our team on #InternationalWomen’sDay. We proudly highlight the remarkable leadership of Mrs. Vivian Rambarath -Parasram, Director and Head, and Ms. Suzette Balkaran, Energy Efficiency Advisor. Their dedication to collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity building has strengthened maritime #sustainability efforts across the Caribbean while demonstrating the vital role of women in the industry. Gender equality in maritime is key to a just and sustainable future. As discussed in our recent workshop, Progressing Maritime Decarbonisation in the Caribbean Region, achieving #SDG5 (Gender Equality) requires intentional efforts to support, mentor, and empower women. Through their leadership, MTCC Caribbean continues to champion these efforts, ensuring women play a central role in shaping the region’s maritime future. We also salute the men who have supported their leadership, recognizing that true progress comes from #collaboration and #inclusivity. We extend our gratitude to these leaders and all who contribute to this mission. Here’s to progress, inclusivity, and a more sustainable future! #MTCCCaribbean #8YearsOfImpact #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInMaritime #SustainableShipping #Leadership #Decarbonization #SDG5 #GenderEquality #MenAsAllies

Final Day at the 3rd GloFouling Partnerships R&D Forum! Today marked the end of an inspiring week with a visit to KIOST, where participants explored marine science facilities and even boarded a research vessel to see sampling tech in action. At KOMERI, participants learned about ballast water management innovations that protect marine ecosystems from invasive species, and Samsung Heavy Industries showcased cutting-edge, eco-friendly vessel designs aimed at reducing emissions. MTCC Caribbean extends heartfelt thanks to all the organizers, speakers, and participants for making this event impactful. #MTCCCaribbean #GloFouling #MarineConservation #SustainableShipping
On the final day of the 3rd GloFouling Partnerships R&D Forum programme, participants had an incredible visit to the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (KIOST), where they explored groundbreaking research and innovative facilities dedicated to marine science. KIOST’s impressive library of marine samples and the biological sample repository, showcased the storage of specimens from Korea’s coastal waters. Participants learned how these resources support scientific research and contribute to the conservation of marine biodiversity. Participants boarded a research vessel to see first-hand the equipment and monitoring software systems used to collect samples. The group also visited Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI) land-based test facility including water basins used to conduct tests for ballast water management systems, gaining valuable insights into how this facility operates ensuring they effectively manage and neutralize invasive species transported in ballast water, which is crucial for protecting marine ecosystems worldwide. A unique highlight of the day was a visit to Samsung Heavy Industries, one of the world's leading shipbuilders, where participants observed the latest advancements in shipbuilding technology innovations. During the tour, participants saw processes behind the construction of eco-friendly vessels, such as LNG-powered ships and hybrid systems, designed to reduce emissions and environmental impact. The tour offered an up-close view of the scale and precision involved in producing some of the largest and most sustainable vessels navigating our seas. This visit wrapped up a productive and inspiring five-day forum. A heartfelt thank you to all the speakers, panelists, hosts, exhibitors, co-organizers and everyone who contributed to making this event a success!
