When analyzing the age at symptom onset in parents, only a paternal history of early-onset memory impairment (onset before age 65) was linked to elevated β-amyloid levels, whereas maternal onset at any age was associated with increased β-amyloid levels. Reisa Sperling, MD, a co-author of the paper, principal investigator of the study, and neurologist at Mass General Brigham, stated that these findings could soon be applied in clinical practice for early diagnostic and disease prevention measures.
