Following the launch of Assura's Net Zero Carbon Design Guide in 2022, we have now completed our first two development projects committed to achieving net zero carbon for both embodied and operational carbon. In Fareham, a refurbishment of an existing high street building into a specialist Children and Family Development Centre, the focus was on controlling the internal environment using as little energy as possible. Significant upgrades were made to the roof, walls and windows, which was combined with the installation of an all-electric heat pump system, powered using as much renewable energy as possible from 72 new solar panels installed on the roof. In Winchester, a new-build city centre development for a medical practice serving over 17,000 patients, an all-electric energy solution has been adopted, as well as maximising solar panels on the roof, to minimise the ongoing running costs. “Projects where we can bring disused buildings back into community use are always exciting and we’re delighted to see the surgery open its doors. The new surgery is fresh, modern and provides the much-needed additional capacity in the area. They have been a pleasure to work with.” That's what our Development Director Alastair Barlow said following the opening of a state of the art GP surgery in Shirley, #Southampton. The ceremonial ribbon was cut at Shirley Health Partnership’s new GP surgery by Lord Mayor David Shields at an opening ceremony on Friday 24th January. Previously a disused supermarket, the new surgery serves over 15,000 local patients who can now access a range of health services, including mental health professionals, health coaches and social prescribers from the premises. The new facility comprises 21 modern clinical rooms, a dedicated space for health education and even a collection of 35 museum-quality artworks! As part of the social impact plans for our development Northumbria Health and Care Academy, we have supported four nursing and midwifery students, from #Cramlington with bursaries to relieve financial pressure caused by the cost of living crisis. Karen met one of the recipients yesterday to hear, first hand, the impact our support has had. #BTS
