In December, Tindall Riley staff in London came together to support The Mission to Seafarers, bringing festive joy to those spending Christmas away from home. Our team gathered to wrap Christmas gifts that were sent to seafarers at the Port of Tilbury. Last week, Capt. Nasir Subahrie Subahrie, Marine Industry Relationship Manager at #BritanniaSingapore, took part in an event organised by the International Group of P&I Clubs in Singapore as a member of the IG's Regional Steering Group (RSG). Nasir was pleased to network and contribute to this educational outreach initiative.
On 17th January, NTU Maritime Business Society had the incredible opportunity to deepen our understanding of mutual maritime insurance by a visit organised by the International Group of P&I Clubs to Gard AS in Singapore. We dived into claims (P&I and FD&D), underwriting and loss prevention to learn how risks are assessed and covered. The presenters provided real-life case sharing of claims handling and strategies to mitigate risks and protect assets of shipowner members. On top of that, we also had an opportunity to speak with industry representatives from Britannia P&I Club, Japan P&I Club, and NorthStandard over lunch, fostering engaging discussions and meaningful networking! A heartfelt thank you to Capt. Nasir Subahrie of Britannia P&I Club, a member of IG Regional Steering Group, for this education outreach initiate. We would also like to thank Tan Wan Jing, Siewfun Cassell, Zirui Yan and Siddharth Mahajan of Gard for taking the time to speak to our students. It’s initiatives like this that enhance knowledge and collaboration within the maritime community!

Following the 52nd SHADE Conference in December 2024, significant changes have been made to streamline regional voluntary reporting for seafarers: New Reporting Framework: A single information reporting framework will be implemented by 31 March 2025. This includes collaboration between CMF, MSCIO (EUNAVFOR Operations ATALANTA and ASPIDES), UKMTO, and Regional Information Fusion Centres (IFC-IOR, RMIFC, IFC-Singapore, RCOC). Simplified Reporting Formats: Standardised forms now enable mariners to report to any centre with ease. Initial reporting to both MSCIO and UKMTO is recommended. Aligned Reporting Areas: The Voluntary Reporting Area is now standardised across all centres, as reflected on UKHO Chart Q6099. Centralised Contact Points: UKMTO will serve as the primary contact for emergency response, with MSCIO as the secondary contact. Incident and Report Forms: These have been simplified for efficiency. Reports will be shared between centres unless constraints prevent it, ensuring quick and effective responses. These changes aim to reduce confusion, enhance communication, and promote safe and secure seas for all. Updates to websites and documentation are in progress and will be complete by 31 March 2025. The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre Annual Report 2024 recorded a 6% increase in piracy and armed robbery incidents in Asia compared to 2023, with a total of 107 cases reported. Despite the increase, improvements were noted in specific areas, such as the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, where proactive measures led to a decline in reported cases. The South China Sea, on the other hand, remains a hotspot for incidents, particularly targeting anchored or slow moving vessels. These developments highlight the need for sustained vigilance, enhanced measures and international collaboration to ensure the safety of maritime operations.
