Today, Jamie Mills and I presented at the Utility Weeks, WWT Next Generation Asset Management & Capital Projects Conference on Building a Smarter Future: Information Driven Capital Delivery for Sustainable Asset Management. Our talk echoed many of the Construction Leadership Councils Construction Playbook productivity focus areas, as presented by Hannah Vickers and the discussion on how we need to operate more efficiently as a Water Sector to achieve the capital programme delivery challenges of AMP8. We only scratched the surface at BIM4Waters Summer Event. Clare Taylor of MWH Treatment opened the session defining the challenge statement for the Water Sector; how open data is essential to improve efficiency, enhance customer experience, protect the environment, drive innovation and increase transparency and accountability. The event brought together the leading projects, initiatives and experts on fundamental data topics, concluding in the initiation of the knowledge graph. The first section covered the vision and need for data sharing to help tackle the key challenges, realise and deliver value, with Mark Enzer of Mott MacDonald providing an overview of the system of systems and connected data and drive for a National Digital Twin. Simon Powell of MOSL flagged the criticality of the velocity and ability to process connected data sets. We then moved on to data frameworks and strategies for data sharing. Bryony Bowman of UKCRIC shared research on how to build out these frameworks and its importance. Matthew Hughes presented on the work of SWAN - The Smart Water Networks Forum digital twin utility advisory group, providing a means for managing operations and assets in real-time operational efficiency. The second section was on leading change, getting your organisation on board with open data strategies, led by Ed Evans FBCS of Open Data Institute. Steven Steer of Zühlke Group gave insight into the energy sector approach and transferable learning. Unlocking the value of data was the third sections theme; how we achieve open data sharing between sectors only being possible if there are robust processes and procedures to ensure data is fit for purpose, accessible and machine-readable. This section was supported by Alex Gkiokas of Anglian Water Services Water and Max Gamrat of Yorkshire Water. Emma Hooper of RLB Digital and Dr Kay Rogage of Northumbria University described the need for a foundation of consistent, quality and trusted data from buildingSMART International. Information was our final theme, Kate Willison of Jacobs and Yasir Alani of Anglian Water Services provided insight into the progress of the Safe Smart Systems project. Melissa Tallack presented on the data sharing infrastructure designed for the water sector from STREAM. GIIGs, Nicola Pearson, discussed the practical support ensuring organisations information will remain findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. We then saw real time success storied from both the Geospatial Commission on the National Underground Asset Register from Holger Kessler at #CReDo a pioneering climate change system of systems from Alanna Gluck, M.Sc.. We then transitioned to Bentley Systems offices where Gareth Richards and Lisa Murphy welcomed the delegates and we reviewed the knowledge graph developed over the day (Yasir Alani). The Made Smarter Innovation: Centre for People-Led Digitalisation new website is now live, catch our case study on " How can technology meet neurodiversity to create equitable workplaces" here:https://lnkd.in/ezkPf5Hv I explore the impact of our partnership: “The partnership between BIM4Water and the PLD aims to create systemic change and a legacy of impact. We are striving for broad, impactful reforms that affect the entire structure and operations of the sector, rather than just small, isolated changes.  To achieve this, we needed knowledge and evidence. While autism is well-researched, our understanding of neurodiversity and the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals is still developing. With an estimated 15-20% of the population thought to be neurodivergent, it is crucial to ensure these individuals are not disadvantaged and to recognise the valuable skills they bring to the labour market and more importantly the Water Sector.  The student project was just the start of our journey. Since then, BIM4Water and the PLD have taken every chance to promote our work and the key message: workplaces that improve opportunities for neurodivergent people improve opportunities for everyone, and the digital realm can nurture these opportunities.  Acknowledging the importance of this work, the PLD has continued to support this research, including providing an autistic person with a fully funded PhD studentship to continue this project. They have also recruited a second autistic individual to examine whether digitalisation intensifies work and, if so, how the impact might be mitigated.  This change will not happen overnight, but gradually, with each panel discussion, public engagement event, social media post, and focused piece of research, we are making progress towards our goal..”  Clare Taylor, Chair of BIM4Water and Head of Digital Delivery at MWH Treatment Susan Lattanzio PhD LINDA NEWNES RSK Group
