Introducing this year's end-of-year video...with a little twist. Instead of talking about all we've accomplished over the past year, we put the spotlight on our people with a festive Behind the B🎄 #ButtressArchitects

About us
Buttress provides architecture, heritage and masterplanning to clients across the country. We’re a multi-faceted community of specialists. Experts, not egos. Team players with all the skills you need, in house. We’re thinkers as much as makers. We believe that architecture is as much about people as buildings, and that buildings should be shaped by their surroundings, their role and the people who’ll use them. Our work includes the public and private sectors, the urban and the rural, the residential and commercial, the traditional and the contemporary, and we’re renowned for our exceptional skills in heritage and conservation. Our approach is about combining the practical and the beautiful, the real and the visionary, responding to the brief and going beyond the brief, finding different angles and perspectives. We enjoy the unusual, the complex and the challenging. We respect the individual and we work collectively. Giving life to buildings and award-winning buildings to clients and the community. Ours is a start to finish service, built around quality, creativity and fresh thinking, designed to give you what you want, even if it’s not what you asked for or expected. Good to look at. Great to use.

Work is steadily progressing at the Carlton, transforming the former cinema into a new live music venue for Maryport. Originally built in the 1830s, the Carlton started out as a bank before becoming a cinema and then a pottery business. As part of our wider regeneration strategy for Maryport, we have been working with Cumberland Council to develop plans to transform the building into a place for the whole community. It’s been a year since our work was completed at Showtown, and as we continue to reflect on our work there, we wanted to share more about the vital role accessibility played in making the museum a place for everyone. Every part of the museum was thought out and designed with accessibility in mind. Read more about the accessibility at Showtown here: https://lnkd.in/ebb_FXxj

Sustainability is a fundamental part of our design for 'The Limes' facility management building at the University of Manchester. The design looked to future-proof the buildings, ensuring longevity through energy-efficiency. We had to carefully consider each department's distinct needs, prioritising a graded zoning system for the separate environmental controls of each. Designed for the University of Manchester, plans have been submitted for the relocation of the university’s central catering unit and campus facilities management accommodation. The new building relocates accommodation from the current Limes Building on the Fallowfield Campus and creates new spaces for environmental and maintenance services teams. “The scheme consolidates existing infrastructure reflecting a new operational simplicity with bold colours highlighting key elements of the design. A highly practical solution integrated carefully into the Fallowfield campus.” - Matthew Burl, Buttress Read more about the plans here: https://lnkd.in/e_JMhMG6 CGI: Virtual Planit The University of Manchester | Rider Levett Bucknall RLB | Hydrock, now Stantec | Turley | The Airedale Group | Dragonfly Consulting
