🌍📖We're delighted to invite you to a seminar focusing on the vital messages emerging from "Just Earth: How a Fairer World Will Save the Planet", Tony Juniper CBE's powerful and hopeful new book. 🌿Awareness of humanity’s dependence on the natural world, for food, water and clean air, is growing – but so is the scale of the environmental crisis we are facing. Knowing the impact we, as a species, have on the planet through our consumption and ways of living, what hope do we have of changing the direction of travel on the nature and climate crises? 🗣️Co-hosted by the Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI) and the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), Tony will be sharing insights from Just Earth and a panel of experts including Lindsay Hooper (CEO, CISL), Melissa Leach (Executive Director, CCI) and others will discuss the themes emerging from the book and how we can respond. 🗓️Wednesday 23 April at 16.00 📍David Attenborough Building, Cambridge and online 🔗Register here for in person and online attendance: https://lnkd.in/eArY6gfp #JustEarth #EarthDay2025 #TonyJuniper

Climate impacts are no longer a distant threat. They are a material business risk NOW. Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) is capitalising on the business opportunities and benefits that come with moving from fossil fuels to clean energy solutions, and your business can too. We Mean Business Coalition has developed the #FossilToClean Business Action Checklists with coalition partners and industry leaders to provide clarity on the actions that businesses can take over the next 2-5 years to decarbonise their core operations and work toward their clean energy goals. The checklists offer tools for practitioners and examples of how businesses are already making progress. They delve into areas that are ripe for decarbonisation, including energy efficiency and buildings, electricity procurement, business travel and fleet management. 🔗 Get the checklists here: https://lnkd.in/eUxF54r2 ⚡ Learn more about Fossil to Clean: https://lnkd.in/eJhGum-C #WMBC

🎙️ Listen to one of our King's Global Sustainability Fellows, Caroline Lee, speak on BBC Radio 4's programme The World Tonight, broadcast on Tuesday. 🛒 After the news that Morrison's plans to shut 52 of its instore cafes, Caroline explained the role that supermarkets can perform in providing social space in communities. She says: "In recent years, alongside several fabulous colleagues, I’ve focused a lot on the role of these ubiquitous businesses within society – thinking not only about access to healthy and nutritious food, but also supporting broader community wellbeing. It was a pleasure to share a few thoughts about the importance of these spaces to social connection and accessing a range of support." 🍎 Find out more about Caroline's research at CISL: https://lnkd.in/eiK4bsAp

📅❌ The European Commission was expected to publish amendments to the Climate Law for the 2040 climate target but has yet to announce a release date. The 2040 climate target and enabling conditions are essential to set the pathway for a prosperous, competitive and climate neutral EU by 2050. 🌍 Romain Pardo, Senior Programme manager, CLG Europe: “A release of the amendments of the Climate Law today would have provided clarity on the 2040 climate target and enabled political discussions to shift to higher gear ahead of the Environment Council. Businesses are already developing solutions on the ground to decarbonise the economy in line with competitiveness and energy security strategic objectives. A clear regulatory framework is key to enable the right investments and business models for a sustainable and resilient future. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eKZ7aMfY #ClimateLaw #GreenDeal #2040Targets #ClimateAction #Sustainability Wopke Hoekstra Ursula von der Leyen Teresa Ribera Han ten Broeke
