A charity supporting young people to overcome barriers to accessing higher education, apprenticeships and early careers.

About us

Causeway Education is a charity that supports young people to overcome barriers to accessing higher education, apprenticeships and early careers. We exist to make sure progression is not determined by privilege. We want to ensure students get the support they deserve to explore options, make choices and produce outstanding applications. We do this in three ways: 1. Student workshops and mentoring We develop, model and evaluate innovative practice to share with the sector. 2. Expert training and consultancy We give teachers and outreach professionals the skills and confidence to make long-term, systemic change. 3. Practical resources We turn insights from research and practice into accessible tools, ensuring we can reach out to the young people and their supporters who need our help most. All our work is driven by our guiding values; • High quality: Our impact is greatest when the quality of our work is highest. • Practical: Take-up of our support is greatest when it’s easy to implement. • Collaborative: Our mission is shared by a vast range of individuals and organisations – through supporting each other we can reach more individuals with higher quality interventions. • Evidence-led: The best solutions build on the greatest accumulation of insights.

With the new Academic Year fast approaching, we're looking back on some of our highlights from 2023-24. 🌟 In July we were delighted to support A&O Shearman's primary school event for Christ Church Primarybricklane. Year 6 students spent 3 days at the A&O Shearman offices, working and networking with volunteers from the firm and learning about changemakers and future careers. The students worked collaboratively to create presentations showcasing their innovative ideas for tackling huge global and local issues, all whilst developing their Skills Builder Partnership 8 Essential Skills, and we were so impressed with their creativity, teamwork and problem solving. 🗨 Following the event, a teacher at Christ Church Primary said: "It was brilliant for them to be in such an impressive professional environment, the opportunity for them to have so much extra support prior to the presentation also made them feel confident. It was such an enjoyable 3 days, brilliantly organised and run too! There are warm up ideas I will certainly continue to use in my teaching too. Thank you so much!" 💭 The students also shared their feedback from the event, and we loved reading their thoughts. We've included a snippet of these below 👇 Thank you Year 6!

🚨 It’s Results Day for Level 3 qualifications (A Level and equivalent) today – what do we know about the results so far? A Level grades at A and A* have stayed broadly steady this year, after falling for several years. 27.8% of A level grades were at A and A* this year, compared to 27.2% in 2023. This figure was 25.4% pre pandemic (in 2019). The gap in top grades awarded to those at independent and state schools has continued to widen since 2019. The proportion of A and A* grades awarded to private school students was 49.4%, increasing by 4.5pp since 2019. For academies and comprehensive schools, these figures were 26.5% (up by 2.5pp from 2019), and 22.3% respectively (up by 2.2pp from 2019). In terms of regional differences, all regions have seen an increase in A and A* grades this year. Top grades have gone up the most since 2019 in London (4.4pp), and the least in the North East (0.9pp). However, substantial regional gaps within England remain, with London (31.3%) leading on top grades awarded and the East Midlands (22.5%) trailing behind. Every young person receiving their results today should be proud of their hard work and achievements 👏 Read our full analysis of the data ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/d2fJr856

Today is #ResultsDay for students across the UK receiving their A-Level, T-Level and BTec National results. UCAS has shared a really helpful guide to navigating results day for students applying for university: https://lnkd.in/eGGSBZS5 and for making the most of clearing: https://lnkd.in/eHr94G4q The timeline that The Sutton Trust shared below highlights the disruption faced by this year group since 2019/20 and we hope that regardless of their results, students are feeling proud of themselves for their resilience and perseverance. Success looks different to everyone, and it's okay to be unsure of what your next step will be - take the time to reflect on and be proud of the steps that you've taken so far.
