Earlier this week, we were proud to host the second roundtable on the UK Government’s Steel Strategy – The Plan for Steel – at our Cardiff site. The event brought together key voices from government, industry, recycling, and research to explore the future of electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking, and the vital role of high-quality scrap in supporting the UK’s transition to low-carbon steel. Chaired by Jon Bolton, the session featured insightful contributions from leaders across the steel and recycling value chain. We were especially pleased to welcome Rebecca Evans MS, Dame Nia Griffith MP, and Sarah Jones MP, Minister for both the Department for Business and Trade and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero – both essential to securing the long-term sustainability of our sector. Thank you to Materials Processing Institute and Gareth Stace from UK Steel for your presentations. Our CEO, Carles Rovira, had the opportunity to guide the Minister through our EAF facility, giving a first-hand look at the future of UK steelmaking. The tour also included a demonstration of our state-of-the-art shredder by Andreu Dorca, Head of Circularity, who highlighted the critical role that scrap will play in building a circular, low-carbon steel industry.
