Cemex’s Rugby Cement Plant once again opened its doors to the public this week as part of our two-day #HeritageOpenDays event. We were delighted to welcome around 100 visitors, who enjoyed a tour of the cement plant, alongside audio visual presentations on the history and development of cement making on the site. They also had the opportunity to travel to the top of the 120-metre-high preheater tower, and enjoy stunning views across the Warwickshire countryside. Chiedza Mupfumira, Social Impact Specialist for Cemex UK, said: "We're proud to open our doors during Heritage Open Days and give the public a unique glimpse into our cement plant's history and operations. It's a chance to showcase the vital role we've played in building local infrastructure and to connect with the community by sharing our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and preserving industrial heritage. Join us to support The Cemex Wellness Cycle 2024 in aid of our workplace disabilities charity, Sense. NEXT WEEK From Monday 16th to Friday 20th September – a group of Cemex UK employees will be taking part in an epic 5-day cycle ride, covering 400 miles of the British isles. Starting at Cemex’s Stockton-on-Tees office in County Durham, the challenge will finish up with a grand finale at our Southampton office. During the week our Cemex colleagues across the UK will be supporting the cyclists as they pit stop at various sites, plus we'll be taking part in physical challenges to match the cycling team's miles. We are delighted to announce that Cemex UK has been shortlisted in two categories at the prestigious NCE Tunnelling Awards to be held in December. In categories, Carbon & Sustainability Initiative of the Year and Tunnelling Specialist Supplier of the Year, Cemex has been nominated for our #Vertua Lower Carbon Sprayed Concrete, which offers a 25.4 % carbon reduction compared with traditional like-for-like sprayed concrete product applications. Developed in partnership with Normet UK, and as part of of climate action strategy #FutureInAction, our Vertua Lower Carbon Sprayed Concrete is testament to tireless collaboration across multiple disciplines in the pursuit of lower carbon end-to-end delivery and design excellence.
