🔍🇬🇧 4 Key Takeaways from the UK Budget for Sustainable Finance The Autumn #Budget provided some critical opportunities for the UK government to support London’s ambition as a green financial centre, especially regarding some of the key borrowing and spending areas. But more needs to be done on providing the policy environment that will further enable the #transition. Here’s our take. 1️⃣ Green Gilt Expansion: Currently, only 2% of the 1.8tn gilt market is labelled. New borrowing means a chance to grow green gilts. The UK can use this opportunity to lead in green finance and invest in green economic prosperity. 2️⃣ National Wealth Fund: The government can catalyse private investment through the new National Wealth Fund — but only if it is willing to take on risks. A high-risk appetite will enable it to take on investments that private investors would be unwilling to finance. 3️⃣ The budget includes £2.4bn for flood defenses and £400m for nature-based resilience — but this could go further. Resilience and adaption could be included in the Local Growth Plans, embedding resilience as part of economic prosperity plans. 4️⃣ The missing UK Taxonomy: Over 50 countries have taxonomies to guide green investments, but the UK is yet to release one of its own. From lagging behind, the UK could leapfrog and design a taxonomy fit for its green ambitions. Read the full story: https://ow.ly/1YSC50U2hwM

🌍 What do you need to know about #COP16 in Colombia?   The LAC team had an amazing time at #COP16 in Cali, discussing how #sustainablefinance can help address our planet’s biodiversity challenges 🌱. It was a powerful week underscoring the importance of collective action for our ecosystems! Here’s a quick recap of the highlights:   🔹 LAC Finance Day: Climate Bonds co-hosted this impactful event, bringing together the financial sector’s leading voices across Latin America and beyond. Together, we explored innovative tools to mobilise resources for biodiversity protection globally.   🔹 Biodiversity Bonds Issuance: We celebrated as BBVA and Banco Davivienda issued groundbreaking #biodiversitybonds, channelling capital into crucial biodiversity conservation and restoration efforts. 💰🌿   🔹 Private Sector Engagement: Over 3,000 companies were called upon to support biodiversity initiatives, highlighting the need for private sector involvement in sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship. 🌍   From Climate Bonds Initiative - Latin America, we believe: 📌 Biodiversity must be at the core of economic development across sectors and for multilateral banks. 📌 Public policy alignment is vital for creating an economy that conserves, restores, and sustainably uses biodiversity. 📌 Addressing climate change and biodiversity loss together can lead to transformative investments with multiple environmental benefits. 📸 Check out photos of our team in action! It was inspiring to connect with so many dedicated leaders working towards a sustainable future. Thank you to everyone involved, and special shout-out to our amazing partners: CDP Latin America, CDP, British Embassy in Colombia, Climate Policy Initiative, Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Principles for Responsible Investment, UNDP, BIOFIN - Biodiversity Finance Initiative, United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), Ambire Global, Biotope, Asobancaria, CAF -banco de desarrollo de América Latina y el Caribe-, Universidad de Los Andes - Centro regional de finanzas sostenibles, Inter-American Development Bank, IDB Invest, ECLAC, Science Based Targets initiative, Banco de Occidente, nuam, ERM .
