📖 #Throwback to the launch of Building Inclusion - The Book in London.  We had the pleasure of attending Marsha Ramroop FRSA FIEDP’s book launch of her new book “Building Inclusion” last week at the The London School of Architecture.  Built environment professionals, students, and members of the general public came together to celebrate Marsha and her powerful work on improving equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the sector.  📢 Shoutout to Marsha, Unheard Voice, Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, and Building People CIC for creating a successful book launch and hosting an inspiring and insightful evening.  Thanks to moderator Aminata Kamara and the panellists Marsha, Neal Shasore, Arthur Mamou-Mani, Pareisse Wilson and Russell Curtis for a great and thought-provoking panel discussion.   We are still thinking about how inspirational the evening was… 💭 so much so that we have written a blog about it (link in comments) 👀. We are here to run stakeholder engagement workshops as part of the design of the masterplan of a manufacturing plant for our client CEAT Limited. We look forward to engaging with the CEAT people and local community and immersing ourselves in the local culture of Kanchipuram, Chennai and Tamil Nadu to create a meaningful place identity for the new plant. Reflections from LREF 🏢 Our Creative Director Tanisha Raffiuddin had an insightful and inspiring time at the London Real Estate Forum 2024 at the Guildhall last week. Hosted by the NLA with the theme ‘Reimagine,’ the event brought together leaders from the government, investment, and development sectors. Here are some of the key insights and takeaways from the place and sector-based sessions: ⚫ City of Westminster Build trust with your local community through consistent, inclusive and purposeful community engagement. Create a safe place to have uncomfortable conversations. Be prepared to listen and get comfortable with being uncomfortable. ⚫ City of London City of London Corporation is now seeing the deployment of capital at scale demonstrating investor confidence and subsequently de-risking construction and delivery. As a forward-thinking Local Authority, with a pro-development agenda and a planning system that works, it is gearing up to deliver economic activity to attract future investment into the city. ⚫ Canary Wharf Canary Wharf received 67.2m visitors so far this year, a 10% increase from last year, thanks partly to their strategy of choreographing the local nature and water. UCL students have also moved into the area, adding to the vibrancy of this dynamic location. ⚫ Science & AI London’s Life Science pipeline is booming, with London planning to build 2.5 times more than Oxford and Cambridge. London & Partners has launched MedCity London, London’s new offer presenting a milestone moment for Life Sciences in London. Visit lifesciences.london to learn more. ⚫ Affordable Housing Housing is cultural capital as well as infrastructure. Gen Z is more likely to support new homes but less likely to engage. Engagement is currently geared towards opposers and not supporters. Early market engagement and mixed tenure models combined with long-term social rent support from the government could be key strategies for delivering sustainable affordable housing. ⚫ Made for me  ‘Made for Me,’ a proposal for interconnected accessibility hubs across London, was named the Overall Winner in the Reimagine London competition. The hubs provide everything from mobility and sensory aids to accessible toilets to support daily life and travel across the city. Read more about the winning team and project (link in comments).
