A decade later, and Derby Arena continues to be utilised as an efficient, multi-purpose venue–no larger than a typical velodrome, but with the ability to showcase elite cycling and so much more. Our design prioritised flexibility and public inclusivity, inspiring broader participation. We raised the track at first floor level to keep the cycling uninterrupted, leaving the ‘infield’ dropped at ground level to host other sports, culture and community events. “The world-class velodrome, together with the flexible design of the infield areas, means that its primary objective of encouraging people into physical activity with a particular focus on cycling, has been exceeded.” - RICS East Midlands, Project of the Year 2016 Read more about the project: https://lnkd.in/eitQ_Vn4 Derby City Council Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd Keyclad Limited Derry Building Services Mace Arup

I'm very rarely lost for words, but I was 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘥 yesterday as I spoke with Derby City Council's Chief Finance Officer Alison Parkin, and Director of IT Andy Brammall about how they've managed to use AI and innovative tech to identify 𝗲͟𝗶͟𝗴͟𝗵͟𝘁͟-͟𝗳͟𝗶͟𝗴͟𝘂͟𝗿͟𝗲͟ ͟𝘀͟𝗮͟𝘃͟𝗶͟𝗻͟𝗴͟𝘀͟. The challenge to meet ever greater need with ever fewer resources is one many organisations grapple with, and none moreso than local government. By deploying generative AI, and setting a clear organisational mandate from their senior leadership down, Derby have become an absolute trailblazer and a case study for what the art of the possible looks like. Absolute hats and off and credit to amazing work by an amazing team. We'll be taking back as much as we can to West Northamptonshire Council! #ai #innovation #generativeai
