Check out this awesome feedback about #DorsetCodingDay. 👇 We're really grateful for the support Nuffield Technologies!
Last week, two of our team members, Isabel Castilla and Alex Stefanou, spent a day with the amazing students at Livingstone Road Primary Federation Junior School for Digital Dorset's #DorsetCodingDay. They shared their personal journeys and gave insights into life in the tech industry, then guided the students through developing a point-and-click game using Scratch, an educational, block-based programming language that simplifies coding through drag-and-drop logic. Isa and Alex had a fantastic time, and the students got hands-on experience with real programming concepts. We're proud to support and inspire the next generation of developers, fostering their curiosity and helping them take the first steps into the world of tech. #InspiringFutureCoders #NextGenDevelopers #DigitalDorset #CodingWithScratch #STEMEducation #TechInspiration #FutureOfTech #HandsOnLearning #DevelopersOfTomorrow

Did you know that many UK mobile networks rely on equipment from only a few suppliers? This limited choice can drive up costs and make it challenging to improve connectivity in rural areas of which Dorset has a lot. We have secured government funding for the Dorset Open Network Ecosystem Project to help to address this issue. The project is exploring the use of open radio access networks (Open RAN) and the use of lower power Arm components in order to understand how these two developments could help to reduce the costs of deployment and ongoing operating costs in rural areas. Our goal is to make it easier and more affordable to bring better connectivity to rural communities. We’re excited about the potential benefits, including enhanced cybersecurity, better power efficiency, and faster rollout of services. It's #GetOnlineWeek and in today's world being online has never been so crucial. A Good Things Foundation poll has revealed that 90% of jobs are only advertised online - yet over a quarter of people are not confident using the internet to compete for jobs. Here in Dorset we have a lot of initiatives to help people get online - and you can read all about them in our latest, special Get Online Week themed newsletter. Thanks for the opportunity to talk about Digital Dorset and #digitalskills at the Public Sector Executive's Building Back Britain Online Conference today. Sorry Gerry Ansell couldn't join us but Will Plant and I managed to fill the session with some examples of the challenges and opportunities of rural areas and some broader reflections on how the new government is planning to support regional activity. Thanks to Nicole Norman for hosting the session so beautifully. Here's some of what we said 👇
Skills are on the agenda for the first leaders' debate of the afternoon! Are you looking to revolutionise your digital strategy or maybe streamline your social media management to save yourself time? Look no further than the #DorsetDigitalLeadershipProgramme funded by the by the #UKSharedProsperityFund. Cosmic UK, the training provider running the course have had great feedback rolling in. Lauren Sewell, Digital Content Lead at Jurassic Coast Trust, shares her experience: "The Digital Leadership Programme, has had a significant impact on our digital processes, and I haven’t even completed the entire course yet! "At the start, I mentioned that I had set up Zapier to automate posting our YouTube videos to Facebook, which led to an incredible 2300% increase in Facebook link clicks over the week. Without the course, I wouldn’t have had the time to do this manually. "This programme has provided me with the tools and insights to automate and streamline our social media management, something that would have taken me weeks, if not months, to implement. "Thanks to the course, I’ve now automated these tasks for the future, ensuring our content consistently reaches our audience without getting lost in my to-do list. The time-saving impact of this training is invaluable to our organisation." Lauren’s story is just one example of how the Cosmic Digital Leadership Programme can empower you to achieve remarkable results.
