📢 Airbnb and Women's Aid Federation of England are launching a pilot that will provide emergency accommodation to domestic abuse victims. The pilot will see listings on Airbnb being used to provide temporary accommodation to survivors free of charge, when specialist emergency accommodation is not available. The initiative, which will launch in one region of England, aims to help local survivors leave unsafe domestic environments. To ensure privacy, Airbnb will implement a specialised booking flow that helps protect survivors’ anonymity and complies with Airbnb’s verification processes. Throughout their stay, all those accommodated will receive continuous support from domestic abuse specialists, facilitated by Women’s Aid. In addition to providing emergency accommodation, Airbnb has also committed to providing training for its UK-based employees. This aims to educate staff to better understand the signs and impacts of domestic abuse, enhance skills and knowledge of domestic abuse at all levels. News: As reported by Letting Agent Today. The DA Alliance brings together organisations to accelerate access to legal support and protection for victims of DA.
About us
The Domestic Abuse Alliance (DA Alliance) provides a service to support men and women affected by domestic abuse. We want to protect the most vulnerable in our society by providing assistance and support for victims and survivors of domestic abuse about their legal rights and the protection measures available. Through our work and services, we aim to make a meaningful and positive contribution to the existing Domestic Abuse partnership framework, by delivering early legal intervention and provide empowering information to safeguard victims. The DA Alliance brings together organisations working on the frontline of domestic abuse across the UK, with the legal sector to deliver instant legal assistance and protection for victims. Our partners range from local support services to national domestic abuse charities and organisations. If you need to speak to someone regarding the services we offer, please contact us on 0800 101 7110. Alternatively you can email us at partners@domestic-abuse.co.uk.

Huge thanks to Employers' Initiative on Domestic Abuse for inviting us to exhibit at their brilliant Conference this week, held at Google's office in London. The day set out to inspire employers to consider how they can develop and enhance their support for those impacted by domestic abuse, both within their own organisations and as part of a wider societal response. And boy did they deliver! With contributions from employers, insights from survivors of domestic abuse, government, frontline services and from event partners, Google, Hestia Charity and Vodafone Foundation. Thanks to Jo for being the 'face' of the Domestic Abuse Alliance. Great to exhibit alongside friends including MARK Brooks OBE from MANKIND INITIATIVE, and Polly Harrar - and to catch up with supporters Sharon Livermore MBE from Domestic Abuse Education and Samantha Billingham. (Please can we have a slide in our office too Razi Hassan and Sahiel Shoeb) #domesticabuseawareness #domesticabusesupport #survivorsupport #WEPROTECT #SayNoToDomesticSilence #WorkingItOut #EveryonesBusiness

Lincolnshire Police has launched a poignant campaign - #ForHolly - aiming to raise awareness and promote help and support for those living with domestic abuse. Holly Bramley was just 26 years old when her life ended at the hands of the man who was supposed to love her. Holly’s family describe her as “a beautiful, caring, innocent soul who had a kindness and warmth that affected everyone she met; a vibrant, happy and affectionate daughter, sister and aunt.” Lincolnshire Police, together with Holly’s mum, Annette Bramley, and the Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Specialist Service are delivering a campaign in Holly’s memory. Over the coming weeks, the “For Holly” campaign will highlight what Holly endured, to help improve understanding of what domestic abuse is, and raise awareness of what to do if you, or someone you know, is suffering at the hands of an abuser. To find out more about the campaign and where to find help and support in #Lincolnshire follow the link in the comments below. #survivorsupport #domesticabuseawaress #WEPROTECT #SayNoToDomesticSilence

How biases and discrimination can lead to lack of protection for LGBTQ survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV). Kaytee Gillis, LCSW-BACS is a psychotherapist and author with a passion for working with survivors of relationship and family trauma and the LGBTQ+ community. In an article written for Psychology Today (see link below in comments) Gillis highlights the importance of understanding how abuse dynamics manifest in diverse relationships. IPV can appear in different ways, largely due to additional risks and vulnerabilities. LGBTQ people are often marginalised, and this can exacerbate feelings of isolation and fear when seeking help. #IPV #IntimatePartnerViolence #survivorsupport #domesticviolence #domesticabuse #domesticabuseawareness #WEPROTECT #SayNoToDomesticSilence

25 banks and building societies have committed to accepting the Economic Abuse Evidence Form (EAEF) to help victim-survivors of #abuse. The EAEF is an information-sharing tool created by MONEY ADVICE PLUS (MAP), which is currently being rolled out nationally by MAP and Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA). It allows qualified money and debt advisors, trained by MAP and SEA, to tell an organisation that someone has experienced economic abuse. On average, survivors hold debts with five different creditors, meaning they must contact them individually. This can be retraumatising for survivors as it forces them to relive the abuse they experienced. The EAEF pilot has seen faster decisions from financial services firms, fewer requests for additional information, and can save victim-survivors from having to repeat their story multiple times. Heidi Alexander, the legal aid minister has said the challenge of piecing together different areas of law ‘keeps me awake at night’ and admitted the legal aid system was on ‘life support’. Speaking at a fringe event at the Labour conference in Liverpool, Alexander sent a conciliatory message to legal aid practitioners, pledging to make public funding a priority and to smooth relations with the Legal Aid Agency. 📢 Please support our volunteering initiative at Sunnyside Rural Trust's Northchurch site. Sunnyside is a local charity and social enterprise dedicated to offering training and work experience to young people and adults with learning disabilities across Northchurch, Berkhamsted, and Hemel Hempstead. These opportunities provide people with a chance to try out beekeeping, looking after chickens, growing a wide range of plants and produce, landscaping and garden maintenance. To enhance the working conditions for their dedicated volunteers and staff, we are raising funds to build a ‘bus stop’, providing essential shelter that will provide protection from the elements, whether it’s rain, snow, or shine. By contributing to this campaign, you will directly help create safe, comfortable spaces for those who give their time and effort to support vulnerable individuals in our community. Your donation will not only help build these shelters but also empower the entire community that benefits from Sunnyside’s programs. You can donate here: https://gofund.me/81399950. It's not every day you receive a letter from a Government Minister, saying that they are looking forward to working with you to protect victims and survivors of domestic abuse. Thank you Alexandra Davies-Jones for recognising the positive impact #WEPROTECT is making, and for the opportunity to help shape and inform the national protective order landscape to improve outcomes for victims of #domesticabuse. #ProtectingThroughPartnership #domesticabuseawareness #survivorsupport #SayNoToDomesticSilence
