The Climate Change Committee's latest report recommends an ambitious target of 87% emissions reduction by 2040, creating a clear pathway for the UK's sustainable future 🌳 Key highlights: • Recommends a cap of 535 MtCO2e for 2038-2042, including international aviation and shipping • Shows how decarbonisation can significantly reduce household costs • Outlines sector-specific pathways for transport, buildings, industry, and agriculture • Recommends nature-based solutions for carbon sequestration and biodiversity restoration • Emphasises that climate action can support economic growth Reacting to last month’s report, our Director of Climate Science, Sam Jackson, said “in the Seventh Carbon Budget report, the CCC highlights the range of solutions we need to reach the UK’s net-zero target from here on out. Whilst the focus up to now has been primarily on electrifying the energy grid, going forward we are going to have to address emissions from the transport sector in particular, as well as agriculture and land use. At Ecologi, we’re pleased to see the additional focus in the CCC report on uplifting UK forest cover from 13% of land area to 16% by 2040, as well as ambitious targets for restoration of British wetlands. The government needs to be bold and ambitious in its plans if we are to achieve net-zero – but crucially, it will need to back up those plans with action: concrete policy decisions and incentives that help bend the curve.” Read the full report 👉 https://lnkd.in/eSswkZjr

Check out these amazing before and after images! 🙌 This satellite imagery shows the incredible impact of one of our reforestation projects in Mussuquelane, Mozambique. Working with our partners at Eden: People+Planet, Ecologi has been the sole funder of this project since it began in March 2021 🌳 While it’s easy to spot the difference in tree cover, the benefits of this project go beyond tree-planting – it’s promoting biodiversity, providing sustainable livelihoods for local communities and helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. Besides the visual increase in vegetation cover across the project area, we also use Earth Blox to source quantitative data about land cover and vegetation indices. This data tells us that tree cover increased by a massive 93% between June 2020 and June 2024! We can also see that the amount of vegetation has increased outside the project area too, which is excellent to see, and may have been in part due to Eden: People+Planet’s team engaging with the local communities to reduce the use of fire to clear agricultural land.
