About us

EDF Renewables is part of one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies in the UK. With our portfolio of 42 sites across the UK, including onshore, offshore, battery and solar, we are providing some of the much needed new affordable, low carbon electricity the UK needs. EDF Renewables UK has more than 14 GW of renewables projects in planning and development. We look after the operations and maintenance of our own wind farms. Customers need new low carbon electricity to be affordable – our innovation is driving costs down, for example our Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Project which has used float and submerge technology on the foundations, 66 kV electrical connection cables and 8.3MW turbines – all firsts in offshore wind. We are also looking at the future of onshore wind using the most modern and efficient turbines to make this technology as low cost as possible. The basis of our success is our people. We have an engaged, enthusiastic and dedicated team in an organisation that encourages agile, flexible and dynamic working. The willingness of the team to pull together to meet challenges is the source of our momentum. Whether you're working in the operational environment on site, or in one of our support functions in an office, we value the contribution each person makes. Every year we run a apprenticeship and graduate schemes to provide unique opportunities for people to get a foot into the renewable energy career ladder. For all careers opportunities and enquiries, please visit our careers page - www.edf-re.uk/careers We pride ourselves on working closely with local communities throughout the projects, from the early stages right the way through to development, construction, operation and beyond. • It's another summer of storage success, as we announce today plans to bring more than 300MW of battery storage online in the next 12 months. Alongside the six battery projects we have in construction, our 52MW battery site in Sundon, Bedfordshire, was recently energised. Last month, Dorset Council also approved planning for a 47.5MW battery in Mannington, Dorset. These projects are important, as battery storage is vital in helping the UK Government meet its target of having a zero-carbon electricity system by 2030. Batteries provides the foundation for a reliable supply of clean power: storing excess renewable energy during peak production and releasing it when needed. https://ow.ly/LaAa50T1ML6 #Batteries #EnergyStorage #ZeroCarbon #AcceleratingCleanEnergy

  • There's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to supporting the local communities living near our renewables sites. In North Lanarkshire, for instance, the local communities have decided – with the support of Foundation Scotland – to distribute the grants from the new West Benhar Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund through three existing local groups in the area. ➡️ The Hartfield Eastfield and Greenrigg Group will distribute the funding to Eastfield and Greenrigg (HEG) communities. It's an established charity and already manages funding from other renewable energy projects in the area. ➡️ In Shotts and Fauldhouse, Getting Better Together Limited and the Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Community Development Trust, will manage their respective share of the funds. Local people in Fauldhouse have already started to see the benefits of the grants, with: ☕ A £1,000 grant to support a barista training partnership for three young people from Burnhouse School, a local skills centre in Fauldhouse (pictured left) ☀️ A grant of £5,000 to provide a diverse summer programme for children (pictured right) and free lunches to children during the summer holidays. • There were some dark and moody skies when we visited our Fallago Rig wind farm in the Lammermuir Hills, Berwickshire, recently. There are plenty of wildflowers amongst the 48 turbines here, and it's reflective of our approach to developing renewable energy sites. We believe in enhancing the local biodiversity – protecting existing species and wildlife, for example – throughout the lifecycle of our renewable energy sites. #AcceleratingCleanEnergy #Nature #Wildflowers #OnshoreWind

  • The Fallago Environment Fund, supported by our Fallago Rig wind farm, has awarded a grant to Borders Youth Theatre, helping them to run regular theatre workshops for young people across the Scottish Borders. The grant of £10,250 will support Borders Youth Theatre as it continues to play a hugely important role in the cultural life of young people in the Scottish Borders, supporting their personal development by using drama to teach them confidence and transferable life skills in a fun and welcoming environment. The Fallago Environment Fund shares the benefits of the Fallago Rigg wind farm in the Lammermuir Hills with projects across the Borders and is supported by us alongside Roxburghe Estates and Federated Hermes.   Pictured are His and Her Grace the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe with participants at a recent Borders Youth Theatre workshop in Selkirk, as they announced the £10,250 Fallago Environment Fund grant for the organisation. Grants are awarded twice a year by the Tweed Forum, which manages the fund. Find out more at www.tweedforum.org/fallago #Community #Sustainability #CommunityBenefitFund #AcceleratingCleanEnergy

  • Earlier this week, we were very pleased to take part in an industry roundtable in Edinburgh with Minister for Energy, Michael Shanks. Jon O’Sullivan, Director of Onshore Wind, Hydrogen, and Commercial and Industrial Solar, took part in the session. The discussion focused on the steps taken by the government to date in the areas of GB Energy and onshore wind, as well as some of the key barriers, such as the grid, which require significantly more work to unblock. Through the roundtable and initiatives such as the Onshore Wind Taskforce, it is very encouraging to see the continued emphasis from the new government on working with the industry to accelerate the deployment of renewables. • We have invested more than €50m in the last two years in Ireland to support and accelerate the country's net-zero future. To help Ireland achieve its net-zero goals, we believe there are four key steps that the Government needs to take: 1️⃣ Prioritise the four successful ORESS offshore wind projects 2️⃣ Invest in increasing grid capacity and connectivity beyond the commitments of EirGrid's Shaping Our Electricity Future 1:1 3️⃣ Capitalise on Ireland's floating offshore wind potential 4️⃣ Resource the planning system Ireland has the potential to become a global leader in new industries such as floating offshore wind, creating new jobs, decarbonising its economy and society, and enhancing its energy security in the process. We're committed to furthering our investment to help Ireland realise this potential, and to working with stakeholders across Ireland to create a policy and regulatory environment that supports the growth of renewables, and the supply chains that underpin them. • We had a great few days last weekend at the Border Union Show in Kelso. There were plenty of visitors to our stand over the two days, where we had activities and refreshments for children and adults to enjoy, including a scavenger hunt around the showground. Thanks to everyone who came to learn more about our wind farms in the region, and the organisers for putting on a cracking event. We held a raffle for our charity partner, Alzheimer Scotland, which runs a dementia café in nearby Kelso, and raised £300. His Grace, The Duke of Roxburghe, President of the Border Union Show, drew the winning tickets on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to everyone who took part. • The Onshore Wind Industry Taskforce met for the first time this week, chaired by the Energy Secretary and Matthieu Hue, our CEO. The Taskforce will drive action across industry and Government to unblock barriers to rapidly increase onshore wind capacity. It follows off the back of yesterday's announcement increasing the budget for this year’s renewables auction. Commenting on the first meeting, Matthieu said: “Onshore wind is already playing a vital role in the UK and is one of the most cost-effective forms of new electricity generation but more must be done to unlock its full potential. By bringing industry and government together, the taskforce is focused on creating practical solutions to overcome barriers to accelerate our journey to achieving net zero. So, let’s get to work.” https://ow.ly/pa4a50SP6Gi #AcceleratingCleanEnergy #OnshoreWind #OnshoreWindTaskforce

Here's a statement from Matthieu Hue, our Chief Executive, following the announcement from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero of the increase in the Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 6 budget: “It is great to see that the government has taken action by increasing the budget for this year’s renewable energy auction. We must accelerate the deployment of renewables to meet our net zero targets and the Contract for Difference is a key mechanism to enable this. “This is good news not just for the renewables industry but for the entire UK, as it means we will be able to deliver greater amounts of clean energy, lower bills and energy security. “We would have liked to have seen a greater budget increase for floating offshore wind, as we believe it will play a pivotal role in the UK’s ability to reach our climate change targets. “We look forward to continuing to work with UK government to meet 2030 ambitions.” https://lnkd.in/ebCbeHcf #AcceleratingCleanEnergy #OffshoreWind #FLOW
