We have invested more than €50m in the last two years in Ireland to support and accelerate the country's net-zero future. To help Ireland achieve its net-zero goals, we believe there are four key steps that the Government needs to take: 1️⃣ Prioritise the four successful ORESS offshore wind projects 2️⃣ Invest in increasing grid capacity and connectivity beyond the commitments of EirGrid's Shaping Our Electricity Future 1:1 3️⃣ Capitalise on Ireland's floating offshore wind potential 4️⃣ Resource the planning system Ireland has the potential to become a global leader in new industries such as floating offshore wind, creating new jobs, decarbonising its economy and society, and enhancing its energy security in the process. We're committed to furthering our investment to help Ireland realise this potential, and to working with stakeholders across Ireland to create a policy and regulatory environment that supports the growth of renewables, and the supply chains that underpin them. That is a unique project that has been completed in the UK. I believe it would be beneficial to see how other remote regions around the world may benefit from the usage of wind farms. I may speak from what is closest to me. The Shetland Islands seem to have the same situation as does the Russian island called Sakhalin in terms of its development and proximity to mainland. The island’s remoteness leads to the expensive transportation of fossil fuel by water. While such a project may be expensive, it would bring down the costs of electricity for Sakhalin residents and contribute to habitat conservation of abundant wildlife. That is why following projects like this one is important for many countries that have territories with difficult access. #wind #remoteproject #renewables #windfarms #onshorewind #onshore
We are thrilled to announce that the Shetland Islands have been connected to the GB electricity grid for the first time, thanks to the completion of the Viking Wind Farm by SSE Renewables and a 260km subsea transmission link by SSEN Transmission ! The Viking Wind Farm, with its 103 Vestas turbines, is set to become the UK’s most productive onshore wind farm, generating enough clean energy to power nearly 500,000 homes annually. This marks a significant milestone in the UK’s mission to deliver clean power by 2030. These projects represent over £1 billion of investment as part of our £20.5 billion commitment to clean energy infrastructure by 2027. Beyond the clean energy, the projects have supported 650 jobs and contributed £125 million to the local Shetland economy during peak construction. The Viking Community Fund will provide over £70 million in support for local initiatives throughout the lifetime of the wind farm. This achievement underscores our commitment to delivering clean energy and driving sustainable economic growth. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this a reality! Energy and Infrastructure Committee members Johanna Murphy, Adam Cronin, and Paul Hegarty attended the WEI Offshore Wind Conference, where they joined industry leaders and government officials in exploring the future of Ireland's offshore renewable industry. The conference featured keynote speeches from Tánaiste Micheál Martin and Minister Eamon Ryan, highlighting Ireland's commitment to sustainable energy solutions. Johanna gained valuable insights from the conference, emphasising several key points: Collaboration between government and industry is essential for success. Offshore wind presents vast development and employment opportunities. There's a significant demand for green energy. An Bord Pleanála is well-equipped to support development. EirGrid will play a vital role in delivering offshore wind energy. Communities will be supported throughout the development process. Ports are critical for the rollout of offshore renewable energy. Investment in offshore wind will ensure Ireland's energy security. Additionally, the conference marked a significant milestone with the announcement of the DMAPS. This initiative represents another major step forward in Ireland's journey towards a greener and more sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/epUZcYEA https://lnkd.in/emjjYEGY #WEIConference #OffshoreWind

According to Scottish Renewables, the next UK government risks falling behind in the global shift to clean energy unless it makes investment, infrastructure, and innovation central to securing a world-class clean energy system. The industry body's manifesto outlines key priorities for the government, including modernising renewable energy support schemes, delivering strategic infrastructure like grid upgrades, and providing policy certainty to drive investment. With new polling showing renewable energy is seen as the most important sector for the economic future of northeast Scotland, Scottish Renewables urges the next government to take ambitious action to unlock the social and economic potential of the country's renewable resources. Nice summary of the next steps for OSW in Australia Chris Fay 😀
Australia’s offshore wind market is taking off and developers are taking the next steps, so how can projects catalyse the feasibility stage to get ahead? Chris Fay, Technical Director and Market Lead, shares insights for success. In the past four years we’ve collaborated with various stakeholders in Australia: regulators, government, developers, port authorities, industry, and peak bodies – and provided technical evaluation for the Regulator prior to the recent award of feasibility licences for offshore wind projects off Gippsland. Offshore wind projects rely on multiple industries to support the transition to cleaner energy, so it’s important to build collaborative partnerships. “This is especially true at this early stage, where the focus is on establishing a supply chain, building community trust and a social licence, and sharing knowledge, intelligence, and resources, which greatly benefit all involved.” – Chris Fay Read the perspective: https://bit.ly/3WPaPch #OffshoreWind #Australia #Energy

Good morning my LinkedIn friends! So, today we wake up to a new government in the UK. What does this mean for the renewables industry? The Labour Party has a bold green energy agenda. Their key pledges for 2030 include: · Create 200,000 direct and 300,000 indirect green energy jobs (50,000 in Scotland) · Double onshore wind capacity to 35GW · Quadruple offshore wind capacity to 55GW · Launch Great British Energy: A public company investing £8.3 billion in green energy and cutting-edge tech · Upgrade the national grid to unblock stalled renewable projects · Enable 20,000 new renewable energy projects · Invest £1.8 billion in ports to support offshore wind farms What hurdles do you foresee in achieving these goals? What sectors or regions might benefit most? Is there anything missing from this plan? How can we overcome these challenges? What are your thoughts, concerns, and ideas on the policies? #UKPolitics #GreenEnergy #RenewableJobs #ClimateAction #windenergy
