It was great to visit the BritNed interconnector site in Kent last Friday with Dan Clelland I believe it’s really important to get out and see first-hand our energy infrastructure, in this case a direct link with The Netherlands. It really allows a better understanding of both the scale of, and the importance of, the physical infrastructure supporting electricity demand in both countries - making 1000mw available for customers to transport electricity between Great Britain and The Netherlands - an understanding that can often be lost in the flick of a switch So it was fantastic to see the physical 260km cable that brings power to the UK and to see where the “magic happens” to send it to the UK grid. Our interconnectors provide a vital service to the UK and our European neighbours, which is taken extremely seriously by the dedicated team at BritNed. The visit really illustrated the real pride in the safe and efficent operation of the interconnector exercised by the teams involved - now for well over a decade. Huge thanks to Stewart Whyte CEng AMP ,David Gisby, Andrew Hankin Ivan Shoesmith and the team for the insightful tour and giving us their time - I hope the cake found a good home!!

Connections update🗣️🗣️ The energy networks have removed 10GW of "zombie" connections projects from the queue🧟 These are projects that have been paused or speculative for long periods of time. This achievement will make grid connections faster, as a part of our wider targets to accelerate connections to the grid. You can find out more here👇 https://lnkd.in/evNBZvYG
